Nor Cal Scout Annual Rubicon Run

It was awesome trip. Silverscout has most of the pictures so hopefully he'll post up pretty soon. I don't know what time Craig and scouty got to the spillway but it wasn't 9:00 am plus Matt rolled in with a hub registering 200 degrees so it took about 2 hours of repair to get started on the trail.

Rolled in into ellis creek and set up camp. Sat we wheeled as far as the box and I had two strikes at that time so I didn't want to go further. Strike one: lost my 4x4 low range, strike two: shreded a tire so no more spares. Mike, Matt and Craig decided to call it a day also. Mike, sean and I headed into camp and started cooking. Lot's of good chow all night long.

Lot of fun for sure, nice easy low stress trip. Matt, billy and myself walked spider lake. I rolling into the box off toyota rock, first time taking that route back. Matt, eric and myself took wentworth spring route and then home. I made it home in time to see the air show at mather by my house too.

Had another great time. All my issues happened on the road and not the trail, making the wheeling a blast. Big thanks to the group for helping out with my wheel bearing issues. Another thing added to the prep checklist...inspect and repack wheel bearings. Nothing like getting dirty before you put the first tire on the trail. Hey randy any chance you can post up your rubicon prep checklist?

Ellis creek was a nice spot to camp. This was the first time I actually got to walk around spider lake. Man that is one beautiful lake. Hope the yahoos stay away, I'm glad they've closed it to general public vehicles. Easy access just brings problems and idiots.

I've got some pics, not many wheeling though. Will post them up tonight.

Oh yea I can't figure out how to change my sign on name, I was given the name pig pen for the cloud of dust the follows my truck around :ihih: :ciappa:

Between you fixing your junk in flip flops and your exhaust pointing into the dust, you must have had straight mud running down the shower drain when you got home.

I have a few more pics of the dust cloud that follows Matt everywhere he goes, but I forgot to download them. I think sean got some better ones, so maybe he will post up before me. Either way, maybe Jeff can help you with your sign in name. Since I was riding with pig pen, I can attest to the fact that the cloud of dust didn't stop once we got off the trail. Once we got on the paved road and he got it above 35 mph, the cloud of dust came from inside his truck. And then, once we got on the freeway, another cloud. We must have looked like cheech and chong going down the freeway with that swirling cloud of dust coming off his truck, and us for that matter. Next time I'm bringing goggles to wear.

Last time I was on the con and a guy in our groupss exhaust pointed down, we stopped at the bottem of the slabs and cut the tips off.

What a great trip. A small group but lots of fun. And sitting with randy is always an adventure. Besides cutting up the side wall of his BFG he lost his low range. I've never rock raced before but this May be somthing similar.

Anywho, more photos to come.

I miss the wheeling. I’ve had a lot of good times up there. Dave’s goal is to make next year’s trip. He’ll know his truck’s ready when it can handle the rockpile at hh. Shotgun!!!
