Hey ya'll,

I bought a sii in pieces so I'm working on putting humpty dumpty back together again. I've attached a couple pics of the motor. I've cleaned and painted it. The po had a shop rebuild it to this point. What you don't see is the pile of parts(buckets, boxes and bags) that I'm trying to puzzle back together.

I'm trying to figure a few things out that I'm sure you can help me with.

1. Torque specs. I can't seem to find a good source. Any online places to find them?

2. What all needs to be on to attach the intake manifold? What I'm looking for is what needs to be bolted on using the main manifold bolts. I've found a number of pictures around that seem to differ a bit with what uses the intake manifold bolts. I don't want to torque down the bolts only to find out that I'm missing some silly bracket.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm sure you'll be hearing more from me.:icon_biggrin:

All the information and specifications needed for servicing any ihc or amc-produced engine is contained in the appropriate service manuals. In fact, the "engine" section of all the service manuals is the same, there is no "specific" Scout II "engine" section.

We are located right up the hill from newcastle in Grass Valley, why not drop by the shop/store and pick up a service manual, they are on the shelf?

We can't go through every possible detail of an engine build on this forum, that is not what we are here for. We do address specific issues when the need arises. And, if you go through many of the threads right here in this sub-forum you will find the information you are looking for.

And...there are many variations of the way an engine was "dressed" oem based upon it's original model year, the level of it's emissions package, transmission used, etc. There is no "one way" that is correct for every possible production unit.

If you are "optimizing" the emissions system and have intentions of smogging the rig in kalifornikate, then dressing the intake manifold is clean and simple. If it is to be smogged, then the use of the service manual to determine vacuum switch locations and hose routing along with egr is imperative.

I am attaching .pdf of a typical torque specs page right from a service manual only because I have posted this in the past many times here on ihon. But please don't expect all critical pages from the manual to be posted on this forum, we do have a few document repositories for the sole use of our customers in furthering their education in accordance with copyright standards.

A word to the wise...if that engine was built by a third party as you have indicated, and it has "set" for more than few weeks, I'd highly recommend that you perform the "pre-oiling" procedure you see addressed in nearly every thread here! You do not want to install an engine that will not properly lubricate the rocker assemblies and the upper valve train.

See this thread for a full explanation of the process and why it's necessary:

http://www.forums.IHPartsAmerica.co...I-4-sv-engine-non-oiling-rocker-assembly.html

You can download a copy of the pre-oil process from that thread and print for use while the engine is on the stand.

This currently active thread again describes why we do not trust "machine shop" processes unless we observe and validate the work ourselves:

http://www.forums.IHPartsAmerica.com/gas-engine-tech/5399-need-some-tech-advice-camshafts.html

Unfortunately we have assisted many folks here that have similar stories!

Shoot. I thought this would be an easy one.

I tried for a while before I posted to search for torque specs and found a whole bunch, but couldn't fine mine. I'd love a good manual. I see you're on lime kiln. But I don't see what your hours are?

No, smog is most definitely not in the plan. That's why I bought a 73.

Thanks for the links on the oiling. I'll go through it.

..cheers
