NO FIRE

After installing a prestolite electronic dizzy in my 74 304 and wiring everything up , no fire from the dizzy. I've got 12.37 at the coil and the red wire to the + and brown to the - . Checked the rotor and found it had no continuity so I replaced it and still no fire. I picked this up from a guy who just happened to have it. Are there any test to check if the module is bad or could the trigger be out of adjustment at the top.
Dont know if the guy or someone has screwed with it but it would be nice to get it going.

The "air gap" between the reluctor and the pickup is spec'd at 0.008". That air gap actually determines the dwell factor for the system and does need to be correct. Standard procedure for setting/checking is to use a non-magnetic thickness gauge, but it can certainly be done with a steel thickness gauge without causing any problem other than the "feel" of the air gap.

Also, have you tested the resistance of the rotor??? Of the four rotors I now have on hand (three used and one new), only the new one is any good, the other three are "open". This "bad rotor" deal is something ya see only with the prestolite distributor.

I'm assuming that you do not have the IH service manual that covers the bench test procedure for the prestolite distributor? There are some tests you can do with a plain old vom (digital or otherwise), but I can't post 'em here as the file is too large in a .pdf format. If you will send me your email addy I will scan and then send the section back to you if your email client can handle large file attachments.

Even for someone with no wife and no bonus of any kind, this is doable! But you will have to know the difference between a volt and an ohm!

Lemme know!

Thanks m/m, for some reason my service manaul skips the electronic schnizz. Guess thefolks who printed it just didnt g a f.

Actually you prolly have the first version of the Scout II service manual, cts-2304. That one does include the Holley gold box system.

The later Scout II two-volume set manual cts-2313 (m/y '78>'80) includes the prestolite schnizz along with much more poop regarding fuel system variations, emissions detail, diesel motor, etc.
