newbie with some questions?

I have a 76 Scout and am planning on changing all the fluids since not sure when the po last did it. It has a 345(very low miles), tf727, Dana 20, d44 front and rear. The rear is locked up with what the po said is a detroit locker. The front is stock. I know from the posts that swepco is some of the best out there but haven't been able to come across some and would rather buy locally.

Any suggestions on what to run for each area?

Good questions on your post, here are my recommendations;

engine oil: swepco 306 either 10w30 or 15w40..... If your winters are rated as somewhat severe with the ambient temperatures consistently below freezing, I'd go with the 10w30 unless it will be stored for the winter, then I'd go with the 15/w40. Note that this oil is a much higher detergent oil than what you will find off the shelf at the auto parts store. It is purposely designed that way to keep the engine clean. If there is a high amount of varnish / sludge in the engine it will go to work on cleaning it out and if this is the case, your oil consumption May go up. If this does not occur, you will probably be able to achieve 5,000 mile drain intervals. If it does occur, you should change the oil more frequently until the excessive consumption subsides, then gradually work up to the higher drain interval.

Transmission oil: swepco 714-20 atf

gear oil: swepco 210-80w140 for both diffs

also recommend swepco 101 moly grease for all grease applications including wheel bearings. Note: when greasing wheel bearings always make sure that the old grease is completely cleaned out of the bearings, races and any cavities which are accessible. You have no idea of what the po used for grease and quite a few greases are incompatible with each other. On greaseable fittings, the only way to purge them is to grease more frequently for the first 2 or 3 applications.

All of these products are available at the purchase page at ihon. There are other on-line stores who handle swepco products, but knowing Jeff and the operation at ihon, I can tell you that his prices are quite competitive, and you will always get good service from him. I cannot say who in your area handles swepco lubricants. (your support of ihon is appreciated)

Would the swepco product work for both diffs with one having a locker? I've heard that some additives would need to be used?

And from reading the other posts, the 210-80w140 will also work well in the transfer case?

The swepco moderator fella can answer better then I,

I have used swepco 210 for the past 10 years in the t case, and both diffs and my diffs have ARB air lockers in them.

I dont recall any locker needing a special fluid, only limited slips????

Oops,

I forgot to mention the t/f case didn't I!

Yes, the 210 will be a good choice for both diffs as well as the t/f case...... Makes it simple, doesn't it?

It has the additive in it for posi rear ends as well and unless it was set up really tight when put together, you should not need to use the extra additive (which you would get at an auto parts store).

Thanks for keeping me on my toes!
