I have just acquired a '65 Scout that I am going to start working on for my little brother and I to go up to the mountains with. Nothing to crazy, but I am hoping for a stout little rig that isn't going to fall apart as soon as I'm out of cell service. I'll cut to the chase and give you my list of questions...
1. How do I tell the difference between a s80 and 800? And, what is the difference in engine, trans, axles, etc. Between the two??
2. I have asked around and some people have told me that the scouts come with d27 axles stock, is this true? If so, would it be a good idea to swap axles to beefier ones... Jeep rubicon or a toyota pickup/forerunner?
Please do not be afraid to tell if/why an axle swap would be a dumb idea, or other possible options that might work out better.
