New Starter Question

Hi all. I am finally a Scout owner after 10+ years of searching. Picked up a 69 800a with the 196 4cl. I know absolutely nothing about automotive work but I've been researching and utilizing this forum to try and learn. I have lots to do and will try and DIY as much as I can.

So here is my starter situation. The Gear that engages the fly wheel (I think is called a pinion) has completely broke off so obviously I have nothing to engage the fly wheel and the car can't start.

Good news is I can buy a new starter and get it back up and running. (I think)

My Question-
Looking for opinions on if I should go with the hi torque mini starter (IH America Part #: IHENG-STRTR-HITORQUE) opposed to the rebuilt original stile. Its more money but seems like its a lot easier to install. Wasn't that fun getting the old one out with it being so heavy, not to mention little clearance to work while laying on the garage floor.

Thanks again for your help. I look forward to becoming a part of this community.

Best,
acapo

It would be a good idea to go ahead and pay the core charge, & keep original starter. Get it rebuilt for a back up. Once you turn it in, its gone to the next guy. Just saying is all. The mean green/ mini starter is fine, but expensive. Really not needed.

Thanks Jeff. Thats what I'm going to do.
ScoutBoy74- no idea why it happened. I don't think the engine is sized up. Im worried that the fly wheel teeth May be damaged. Is that possible?
How to I rotate the fly wheel?

1/2" at a time, big screw driver , while your under it and can watch it, and inspect teeth, unless u have a helper, they can turn it w/a breaker bar on the front of the crankshaft.
