Well, I am the proud new owner of a 71 Scout II, 345 ci. 4wd, 3.73s, w/travel top. I will keep my first post short with only one question that I am real interested in finding out the answer to. So I`m new to the breed and with the little research I have done, I found when inquiring about Scout II parts, they seem to list starting in 1972. I read on another forum that 71 Scout II parts are the same for the 66 to 71 model scouts. Is this correct ? But my real question is, on the last item listed on the LST it says :
(Scout II 10 b prototype)

does the listing of this vehicle being a prototype means what I think it means or are all 71 Scout iis made as prototype models?
Thanks for taking the time to answer the newbies question.
I would post a pic of the line item on the LST but I dont think I have the priveledge yet.

I hate to bust your bubble but IH used the word prototype as a code for a set of options. It does not mean that your Scout was one of a kind.

To put it simply it saved the dealer time and eliminated mistakes on ordering. You see back in the day you could order a Scout any way you wanted it 4 cylinder with automatic and 3.07 gears yep you could order that.

IH decided that if you did want a 4 cylinder and an automatic you should probably have at least 3.73 gears (this is only an example not really what happened). So rather that checking all the individual boxes you just check one box and all the equipment would be printed on the line setting ticket (LST).

That all being said a Scout II that is actually a 71 is kind of rare and had some funky things iirc like push button for the glove box. I believe that are a couple more things
