I recently purchased a 78 traveler with 345. I am a problem with it not idling. So I did some basic stuff (I have very limited experience working on cars).

I replaced plugs, wires, rotar, and cap (found a nice diagram of firing order)

rebuilt the carb using a guide I found here. I did notice carb did not have accelerator needle when I broke it down.

Put carb back together with accelerator needle installed. Start right up and idled for about 5 minutes before dieing. Restarted and it would not longer idle.

Runs as long as I give it gas.

Where should I look now?

We need to know what carb model you have. Is the choke working...ie closed when the engine is cold and open when the engine is warm? What is your warm idle speed set to? Difficult to know without a tachometer.

Before doing anything, read this thread -> http://forums.IHPartsAmerica.com/basic-tech-questions/9019-fuel-float-struggle.html

After reading that, come back and tell us 10 things that you learned from that thread.

Ps. No disrespect to malstrom.

Stock carb, Holley 2210.

Float was adjusted to recommended measurements (3/16" between top of float and float stop & sits parallel when when upright).

Correct me if I am wrong, but this model does not have an external float adjustment.

The choke May be the problem. Can the divorced chokes be adjusted?

I read "fuel float struggle" shortly.

Thank you

Had it sat for a long time before you got it? Water in the fuel will do what you describe. A simple solution is a can of heet or a pint of denatured alcohol in the tank. Sometimes it takes a good wide open throttle run through the gears to suck the water out of the carb passages.

It had been sitting for a while. I will try that and see what happens.

Quick update.

Noticed I only have one jet side spraying. Broke carb down and cleaned everything again.

Of course this did not solve the problem.

What am I missing with the throttle side not spraying?

If one of nozzles are not srying you need to clean it,needle might work,is you idle screw set right,??
