Hey guys, I have a 1974 Scout II 345/727. Hei conversion. I am installing my new motor, new cam, ect. I am kinda worried about being exactly tdc on #8 before I go through the oiling process, then starting it. I just want to make sure I'm dead on before I wipe away my new cam bearings :icon_gonk: thank you in advance

link for distributor installation: http://forums.IHPartsAmerica.com/ignition-tech/4130-installing-distributor.html
or: http://forums.IHPartsAmerica.com/basic-tech-questions/3449-IH-sv-engine-distributor-stab.html

Pre-oiling the engine: it is not necessary to be at tdc on #8 cylinder to pre-oil.
When you pre-oil an IH sv-8, you will need to slowly rotate the engine by hand until the oil holes line up in the cam bearings in order for lube to reach each head. There is one position for each head, or in other words, two positions for the v-8 engine.

There is a thread in the gas engine tech forum with instructions for pre-oiling, but I cannot locate it. But I do have the old iron attachment from that thread. (attached)

being at tdc #8 cylinder is only useful for installing the distributor.

Thanks for your help. Sorry I messed my sentence up. I meant after the oiling process, before I try to start her up for the first time. Just want to make sure I'm on the compression stroke.

I found what I was lookin for. Intake and exhaust valves will be closed on the #8 ,and pushrods should be able to spin freely. That's all. Wanted to check before I went and started it. Thanks :aureola:
