New fuel lines

I have been reading through the fuel injection threads and have a question on the return and supply lines. My binder is a 1979 v345 with a 19 gal fuel tank. I will be installing an afi system. Reading through the threads; I see the supply is 3/8 and return is 5/16 or 1/2. I am doing a frame up build and I am at the point of running all the lines ie... Fuel and break. So the question is two part. What would be the best setup? 1). Hard lines or soft lines between motor and tank. 2). For the fuel injection system is 3/8 supply the best way to go and what is the best way to go on the return. Thanks.

Re: Welcome

3/8" on the supply
5/16" on the return.

I run a new line for the supply. I like to run a hard line like the steel brake line tubing or the nylon airbrake line like is used stock. You can run rubber FI hose if that's your preference.
Works fine.

For the return line I simply use the stock fuel line.

The 79 tank should have plenty of ports to hook a return to.

Thanks for the reply. Have another question about the return. You told natesih that he needed to t the return with 1/2 copper t. Not quite sure I understand what type of copper t and where to get it. Thanks. By the way are you still in the navy?

He was using the tank vent line that is 1/2" hose iirc-if I remember correctly. So you need to use the thinner wall copper plumbing pipe instead of brass fittings that are normally pretty thick wall. These will restrict the vent line and cause a problem during refueling. I hate standing there with the pump on slow.

You have the later tank and should have a fitting on each top front corner. One of those can be used for the return.

Still serving proudly after 26years.
I thought about hanging it up but was asked to make another trip. May be in swa for the summer. Should be a balmy 130f.:smile5:

I do have the two vent fittings on top corner. I will use passenger side fitting for the return and t the other side for the vents.

Good for you doing 26 years. 20 years on submarines was enough for me. I could handle the 6 month deployments they were fun, but when they started changing 6 to 9 months it got a little old. Had a lot of fun though.
