new guy needs a part for my carb

Hey guys, great site! Has been loads of help to this new Scout owner. I recently picked up a 1977 Scout II, (int. 345 motor, gold box, auto trans) I hoped to get it home, do a quick tune up and a break job and have it out in the field on my property here in southern Missouri, but I've had issues getting the thing to run ok. New plugs, wires, new gold box, water pump and I'm currently attempting to rebuild my carb. I've got the Holley 2 barrell 2210c. I pulled it apart using my IH service manual as a reference and realized that it is missing the power valve piston. The power valve is there, but the rod and spring are gone. Is this what is causing my plugs to fowl out? Also, where could I possibly find a power valve piston? If I can't find this part, what would be a good replacement carb? Thanks alot!

A non-functional power valve system in a Holley 2210c will not cause the plugs to fuel foul (over-Rich condition). But if sum dumazz removed the power valve actuator system, they most likely jetted the carb way too Rich to try and compensate for a non-func power valve. That means the carb is way over-Rich just when it needs not to be.

Your subject carburetor either needs to be repaired and then setup correctly by someone who knows those mixers, or...replace it with a suitable substitute such as a Holley modular 2300 with an electric choke conversion.

We have many threads in this sub-forum that discuss the 22xx carb issues and how to deal with 'em. And same for the 2300 conversion.

In order to repair your carb, I need pics of the inside of the main body showing the power valve. And also a pic of bowl cover so I can identify which carb you actually have for certain. Others here have seen similar problems and later found out that their carb was a mixture of several different incorrect parts. Once it's id'd for certain, I May have the parts you need to make that unit function.

Thanks for getting back to me. I'll try and get some pics tonight. The motor on this Scout is pretty well unmolested, but someone has definately been in the carb.

Ok! I'll monitor your thread and see what we can do!
