Hello to all,I am new to forums here, first would like to say you guys rock in the facts/knowledge area.mayben your the man.I have poured over the threads, all of them.I have a issue, got a 77sii 345,727, 2300 carb swapped to it,with manual choke setup.what is happening is at running temp I have to leave the choke almost shut to keep it running.if I crack it open any,to look down the bores,it dies.I can turn idle screws and nothing happens,no change nada,it the crazyest thing(to me any way)I jus rebuilt the carb cleaned everything very well, made sure had the proper gaskets for the build.filed the lever for the pump shot, got the 00.015 set for the lever.also have correct shooter needle set up for my app.sprayed around carb no hi rev everything seems tite there.not sure if this applys to the issue jus giving a history to the carb.have not moved to timing as of yet,but thats next of course.if im over looking somthing stuipd tell me lol,any info would be a great help, thank you for your thoughts on this.:out: p.s list num is 6380

Hey,thanks for reply.I have a 6380 list num for the carb, strange thing couldnt find any info on it at any parts stores.heck they want even crack a book,if it isnt in the computer they dont have it or we cant get it,that really makes me ill.sorry venting lol.so I called Holley and they told me it was a plain 2300 no gov,and said it was a marine app, ordered the 3-888 kit for it.I did pull this off a 72 IH I have and po said it was orginal to the Scout.it dosent have any tell tell signs of it being marine tho, looks like a plain Holley two barrel.I will go over all my vacume again and put air thur the mix screw ports to see if I mite have blockage there.again thanks for your thought on this and info, aint stoppin till its rite lol:out:

First off, a list 6380 Holley 2300c is not a marine carburetor! It's an side-hung float oem unit (p/n 428091 c91) for a 1972 304 with automatic transmission. Excellent carburetor for these engines.

A true "marine" carb is significantly different internally and those are rarely used on any motor vehicle app. Some versions could be used with some changes in external linkages, etc.

Obviously the fuel level inside the bowl is very low. Hopefully you changed the float to a brass unit and then set it "level" with the new fuel needle adjustment? If not, then do that first.

Also make certain that the entire fuel system plumbing is clean and free-flowing. The spec for the fuel pump outlet pressure/volume is a nominal 5psi with a volume of 1 pint in 20 seconds at cranking speed.

Only when the engine is up to full temperature and idling can the idle mixture screws be final set along with final curb idle speed.

Hey guys found the problem, pump lever needed more tweeking.was putting a stream and not a mist into the carb.lesson learned you can look over somthing a million times and miss whats in your face.iset the float a scosh below the sight plug as recommended in the 2300 thread.I did have it set to low.set screws at running temp, smoothed out nice.next goin to do power timing to get the best proformance.thank you guys for your time on this and mayben thanks for always knowing the facts:thumbsup:
