I just had a few questions I just picked up 73 1110 last night it was a steal but it has been siting for 9 years body is good but the org motor was pulled and the guy thought they put in a 392 from a 918 combine does anyone know any common problems with these motors or if I should even put the time into a rebuild for if I should look for the stock 304? Also I was wondering if anyone new if there was a way to for sure find out what axles are under it I read about Dana 44s front and back but what is the easiest way to determine that? Thanks

Welcome. The 392 is a fine engine...actually the entire sv8 engine family 266-304-345-392 are great for what they were intended for...moving heavy loads slow and steady. They aren't hot rod motors. They rev slow and breathe like an asthmatic with a c-pap machine. The larger sizes rev slower than the smaller ones. Redline is about 4200 rpms. For any engine that has been sitting dormant more than a year, you need to pre-prime the lubrication system before you even so much as rotate the engine over once by hand. Definitely don't just hook up a battery, dump some fresh gas and light the fires. The procedure for pre-priming is explained in detail within a thread called something like "reviving old iron" inside the gasoline engine tech section. The next piece of advice is to make sure that any and all existing varnishy fuel is purged from the entirely of the fuel system including the carb. Don't even try to burn that old shit through. Very bad news bears idea.
You can do a google image search for d44 axles and compare the pics to what your pumpkins look like. That's the easiest way to visually id a d44 axle.

Nothing wrong with a sv-392 engine.

Dana axle id attached.
