Ok, I have been on IH Parts America for a little while now and have met a few of you guys at the I.h.s.t.o meeting. If you don't remember me I was the dumb ass that wore a john deere sweatshirt to a International meeting duh. Anyway I thought it was time to post a few pics of my junk iron witch is quickly becoming a "busted budget" project.

Here are some pics of the way I got it after I gave it a well deserved bath, filled 4 96 gallon garbage cans full of po junk and got rid of the massive ant colony . I will post up more pics of what I have done and what I am currently doing. Hope you enjoy.

As far as running one her own, I put in a new Holley 7448 and she sounds just like she did off the show room floor. Flawless.

I forgot to add the specs to my first post so here they are. 1976 Scout II xlc 304, 727, Dana 20, Dana 44's all stock when I got it.

So here's what I have done so far. New cap, rotor, wires, wired in power switch and push button start, new Holley 7448 with manual choke, cut out and patched two rust holes in the floor, prepped floor and sides, herculined the floor and bedsides, installed the old uber Scout seats I got from Mike( thankyou) put in new transmission shifter cable. Then I took her out for her maiden voyage. She shifted into gear perfectly and the brakes worked flawlessly I drove it up and down the driveway and seemed to be working great, the only problem I had was the transfer case got stuck in 4 low. All in all, not too shabby for being buried deep in the woods for 8 years.

I would to thank mayben, Mike roth and monte for all the help they have offered. It is very much appreciated.

Now for the fun stuff. I enjoyed the fact that she ran and drove so well for about 10 minutes, then it was time to put her up on jack stands and rip those 44's out of there.

I had managed to trade some crap I had lying around for a set of cheby 1 tons and they were calling my name. I am currently in the process of doing the swap. The 60 is in and I'm working on the 14 bolt putting new perches on it.

I had also managed to trade some more crap( I have alot of crap) for a Jeep Dana 300 and I bought the tail shaft housing and a Jeep 727 to gut for the output shaft off of ebay for $70 total. Tranny was local so no shipping cost. Score.

I would like to hookup with someone from I.h.s.t.o who does 727 rebuilds and have them swap in my output shaft and rebuild my transmission for rockcrawling. So if anybody is interested in that task get a hold of me.

I'll keep posting progress if there is intrest.

Lots of work accomplished in a very short time! And all successful!

I have Scout II slushbox cores already torn down now, all my cores are being dismantled into parts piles with the idea that when someone wants a tranny, it will be built to their needs.

Put that Jeep output shaft set in a baggy and box to protect the governor, those are very fragile!

I can assemble a 727 using what ever level of guts ya want. I have some of the "good" stuff in shipment now after visiting the supplier in portland last week, though they really don't need much in the way of beefing. I refuse to install any of the common "drag race" schnizz though as that stuff is really not suitable for this type use. I do insist upon the installation of a transgo tf-2 (or tf-3 if desired for offroad only) shift improvement kit as that is the key item which adds the beef!

I can put together a quote for ya using my core, and then you can keep your current tranny intact for either re-sale to someone else, or as a credit against a build-up from my end.

Shoot me a pm michael with a qoute, like I said I really want it geared towards rock crawling, it will be a strictly offroad rig trailered everywhere. You know what you are doing so I will leave it up to you. Also I read that for the Dana 300 swap I need to use the bull gear from the Jeep transmission, I am not sure witch gear that is, I am assume that is the long gear that I left on the shaft in the picture?

That "long" gear is actually one of the sun gears for the planetary gear set, that will not be used in the conversion as the planetary already in the Scout II tranny would be re-used. However, I would need it in order to determine the overall condition of the shaft and any associated thrust washers.

Those use an internal splined "coupler" shown sticking out the input side of the case in your pic), not a nut-retained bull gear as you find in the 727/d20 mating area.
