my new scout 2

Here are some more progress pics. I am almost done with the motor so I started putting the sheet metal back on. I got the inside of the windshield frame painted. This thing is going to be bright.

I decided to build a twin stick for my t-case, I did it without removing any detents so I can do rear hi or low, and front low. This setup will be fine for doing digs. I also decided to run the Holley gold box ignition since that is what the harness is set up for. Hopefully withen the next week or so I can get over to p-n-p and grab a carb.

I wish I had lass free time and more money, it would get my build done faster. However, since I have way more free time then money I decided to pull the body off of the frame so I can fill in all the holes, clean and paint it nice. So today I tore down the front clip and got the body all unbolted. Tomorrow I should be able to get the body off the frame and onto my small trailer.

Got the body back on the frame and reassembled the Scout. Here are some recent shots. Also worked on the front bumper today.

Yeah I do know what slag is actually and I have welded before many times. Just never seen such a large line of weld peel up like that. Looked like there was weld on top of weld peeling off like there wasnt enough penetration of the material.

As soon as the top and doors sell, I will get the tube for the new cage.

The sides of the Scout "fell" off the other day. I am getting closer and closer to my old buggy. I have not been truly excited about my rigs since I had gotten rid of the buggy. So this is going to be just like the old buggy just the the top of the cage will go back a bit farther to cover a rear seat.

Here are some updated pics

I really need a set of 44's for this thing. I am going to make some small brackets for the sheet metal to bolt to for street cruising.

:yikes: awesome update post. It's good to see one of these vehicles get a "done-right-the-first-time" treatment, after I went through about a year of afternoon working to get mine into shabby, barely streetable condition. Still leaking, still rusting out the floors, still running poorly, still needing another go, and another few grand...

Looking like an awesome project, great build!

Glad to see your still building. Those 63" Chevy rear springs have come a long way. :out: those look like the Ford radius arms bushing holding the trailing arms on.

Yep, I was welding next to the 63's and I think they got to hot and just coiled up. I have always used Ford radious arm bushings for the front of my links, they allow the link to twist without binding. They also act as a little cushion compared to rod ends.

Nice build. so what is your wheelbase at now? 107-110"? And since the rear leaf springs went away are you planning on staying with leaves in the front or going to coilovers?

I think my wheel base is about 112 or so, the leafs will stay untill I do coilovers front and rear.

Looks a littel different than it did in November. The nose isent pinched yet tho. Looks like more time than money can make for some drastic changes! :ihih: . I wouldn't know tho I don't have either :icon_crying: :icon_crying: . Nice work redy for hollister in March :yikes: .
