My new 1300 dualie

hear ye, hear ye…

I can finally retire my IH hat.

I took possession of carl’s 1970 1300. It’s in excellent condition. It’s seen its last days as a work vehicle and now its time to get cleaned up. In time, I’m gonna turn this into a “show” truck. I’ve done the crawling scene with a killer truck [I still miss it] And have many super memories from it. But, this new venture is something that can bring the fun back.

Thanks carl

Re: guess what I got

Totally cool... Glad you are back into a binder. I think you should get another license plate that says 4 my Ford as I don't think the Ford with the 4 my IH license plate will be towing that thing :ciappa:

Re: guess what I got

Since I know absolutely nothing about the IH pickups, why don't you describe it a bit. Engine, tranny, axles, future plans, etc. Are you going to have it on the work day to show it off?

Re: guess what I got

I like following threads of someone’s build up and the progress made. I made a big mistake of not taking a variety of pics of my old 80 when I first got it and during its buildup. The only ones I have I'm doing something with it like hollister, con, etc. I shouldn’t make that same mistake with the 1300.

After the initial cleaning of dried up mortar and whatever, it turns out this truck is in excellent shape. Except for the headlights, all the electrics work: lights, gauges, am/fm radio, even the spot beam on top. Same for the wipers and heater. Instrument panel and dash are in perfect shape. Cruises 65 on the freeway just fine. 345 2bbl. 5-speed. Need to power wash engine and under carriage.

First thoughts of what retirement will mean to the "mug mobile".

The bed – remove the weather guard boxes [for sale $350.oo for the pair] And racking. Cut the headboard down about 16 inches. Black rhino-line. Add a wood deck with low rise sides - thinking about using that composite decking. Remove current under bed storage box on driver side and add under bed storage boxes on both sides.

Interior – I won’t touch the dash. New upholstery, carpet, headliner, paint and a moonroof. Probably will convert to buckets to include a tuffy for a stereo.

Exterior – red…duh. Body, bed sides and rear. Some chrome work on the front bumper and grill. New and more modern style of side mirror.

Rims – if carl gets the alcoa rims for his IH dualie, he will pass his chrome inserts on to me.

latest thoughts...............
Starting to plan out the bed. I will scrap-out the existing bed and layout something new. Full skirting, side boxes, hitch, and lighting.
But first, looking forward to the pacific duallies.

Re: guess what I got

Nice flaps! They look like they belong.
Fwiw, be careful about backing up over curbs, you can easily tear off your mud flaps. (don't ask me how I know this)
