Hey everybody! Been looking for a Scout for a few months now and I just pulled the trigger on a 1972 Scout II. I'm planning on doing a lot of work on it over the next fall and winter, but until then I just want to keep it in shape to hit a trail or two. I think I May have made a typical man mistake, a 'manstake' if you will. I bought it because it was all in all pretty good shape, and had a lot of the bells and whistles I was looking for.
Pros:
*winch (it's a warn, not sure the exact model)
*air compressor built in
*custom front bumper with flood lamps
*engine rebuilt 33k ago
*B&M shifter (automatic)
the stuff I should have paid more attention to:
*lots of holes from where bolt ons used to be
*lugs for the wheels cross threaded
*only the speedo and alternator gauge work (fuel gauge, temp guage, oil gauge, gear select...none of it works)
*all of those "goodies" I was so excited about are overloading the battery and making it difficult to start. It really should be on a dual battery set up...May have issues with the starter motor.
I've already taken it to a shop to take care of the cross threaded lugs and make sure there are no glaring safety concerns before I drive it to my garage a little further south, and the holes I can take care of once I put it in storage for the winter. My big concerns right now are getting those gauges working (hopefull making sure I don't have an electrical fire in the process), getting it to start easier and just an all around check list so I can get a trip or two in before summer is over. Any tech advice or links are greatly appreciated!
