My 71 SII

It's taken me a while but I finally got some pics up. This was my daily driver from January 1997 until April of 2000 when it became more of a play vehicle. In the last 3 yrs 2 of them I didn't spend much time doing much with it because of electrical problems and lack of time to tear into it. This last year I have been doing a little at a time and it is paying off, she runs good. I'm the 3rd owner but the 1st and 2nd owner were family it has had a pretty good life. I have almost every receipt back to 1971 including the original line sheet and original sales sheet.

An 810? Isn't that the 800 series body? All I know is the the sii started in 71 and this says sii on it, if the 810 has nothing to do with how the body looks then maybe it is. How can I tell?
 
810 is the "proto type" for the Scout II. Made in early 71 as they were still producing the 800 series. The 810 is a Scout II with some very sutble differences. Check out the md build. That is a 810 and speaks about some of the differences in the 2. A very quick way to tell is the glove box will have the same release button the 800 series did. Also there are screws instead of bolts in the tailgate hinge. No lighter in the dash. Lots of little things like that.
 
Fascinating I've been into scouts since I was 15 and wanted one since I was 12 and 17 years since my first Scout purchase I learn something new about them. I'll look at it in a bit and get back to you.

So do you still have your 810? Mine is one month older then zombie, mine was built 5-71. I of course have the old b.w trans and it shifts great. About 10 years ago I swapped out the d30 front for a d44. I didn't know it was a rare Scout at the time, I knew it was early production but the 810 I just learned of today. I was told the engine is the same one it came with and has a rebuild on it. I'm interested in more 810 info now.
 
With cuzzin' mikee roth (aka ss2 arount here), ya never know day to day what he and his pop (ihgramp) might have on tha yard or in the pile in the woods!!!! Them boys have short attention spans when it comes to this shit and rigs come and go by the hour!

But...I think we shamed mikee into hidin' zombie under a burn pile in the back of the place where the county fucks can't see it and confiscate. So hit him up about tha zom's current status! Last I saw of it, he wuz gonna graft the tilt front end from a bugeye sprite onto zom.

I gotta reprint of a 810/sii "introduction" analysis I'll post a scan of when I git time, were leaving for the day shortly and won't be back around here until tomorrow morning.
 
Here's a scan of a reprinted pimp for the intro of the Scout II from four wheeler magazine, August/1971 issue.

Like most items like this from that era, this is just a puff piece complete with errors and embellishments that was gleaned from a press kit supplied to magazines and other media outlets regarding "new model introductions". Having been part of that process on occasion (not for IH stuff though), I can say that smoke and mirrors were a big part of "press days" (can we say party time?) like this.

Still...it's a glimpse back at what was happening in the day.
