my 65 80 update

This weekend I went and picked up chris's 44/30 axle combo. It will be a nice upgrade to the stock 27's. I still need to pick up a Dana 20 tc, some 4.10 - 4.27 ring/pinion to make them usable. But the priority is to get the Scout up and running first and worry about axle tech later. I have to say that chris does a damn fine job at house remodeling. His work is just as impressive with studs and drywall as it is with crawlers and drivetrains.

I also have a 1962 Scout from the roths that has a good running engine and many panels I need to finish my project. It also has a nice set of extended shackles I will use until such a time that I can reverse and upgrade springs for chris's axles.

Before I will even touch any of this stuff I need to finish paying for them. When that happens there will be significant progressive updates to share. Until then I will be getting the Travelall ready for maybenville.

Thanks to Mike maybe, ken and Mike roth, and chris pucci for the help you have given me.:winky:

maybe my wife will see how bad my sickness is and give in to diverting significantly more family funds to my hobby budget.:arf:

I gotta fresh d20 I just finished yesterday, set up already for twinstick (no sticks supplied). Nearly all gears replaced and bearings. But it's set up for only a 17.5 degree bull gear...I can supply a virtually new 23 spline/26 tooth bull for it...those are used behind a tf 727 tranny/adapter. These parts are not available new unless some spicer gear wholesaler has nos still around. We've scoured the country to find this near new one I have, came from a wholesaler in pa. Ihon also has some used ones. Price includes both yokes.

I also have one fresh 18-8-31 bull gear (6 spline/26 tooth) that will allow that tc to mount to a t90 (three speed) or t18 (four speed).

Of course, the d20 is a centered output so it will match a centered s800 or sii d44 axle. So with both bull gears available, it can go either way.

This stuff ain't cheap as it's as near new as can be made, and the paint job (gloss black) is better than a new one. Originally an sii application.

$425 with either bull gear, $350 without a bull gear.

I also have a takeoff d20 which was behind a t18, it also must use a 17.5 degree pitch bull gear unless a few gears inside are replaced. This one is a oem twin stick and all sticks are present with anti-rattle springs.

Looking at what critical points ya can see through the input opening, this one looks usable as is...but the bearing condition cannot be verified. That one is $125 as a core, just as it sits, it has been cleaned externally. Reconditioned price will be same as the first unit. I have all parts available for rebuild except possibly a bull gear, those come and go randomly as I can find 'em.

Thanks for coming and getting the axles drew!

On the other end of the d20 spectrum -- I recently had to sit on a d20 for over a month on craigslist at the outrageous price of $40. It was a solid runner.

Mike, thanks for letting me know about the tc's. I don't have the guapo right now to trade for that kind of juice. Here is what I will take care of before I drop some cash on a tc.

Grind/blast coating and crap off frame,
clean, paint frame,
purchase motor and transmission mounts,
pull new motor, clean, inspect, paint
inspect both transmissions for best one

at this point I need to either get the 20 or go ahead with the 27's leaving the drivetrain upgrade on the bench until such a time as I can afford it.
