Mt St Helens (with Scout content!!!)

I was working in portland when the mountain blew. Ash everywhere, but not near the amount toutle, yakima, and others got. You can still see the ash hills/dredgings along i5 the corp of engineers left from the cowlitz river dredging.

That picture make the johnston guy even cooler.

If you haven't already done so - pay your respects and go to his memorial, well worth the trip:

I was in bend on vacation with the family during the eruption - I understand it was much less amazing on the east side. Not nearly the ash fall out as the west side. But when we got home to milwaukie there was ash everywhere, just like the pictures...

I was living in bend when it happened. It was not as visually spectacular but I did hear the boom.

After a few years they made a movie about spirit lake. They filmed that movie at my favorite swimming lake at the base of mt bachelor.. Elk lake. It was that movie that made me really think about what an awesome power the mountains have.
