Mounting bracket for pedal linkage

I posted this on my reader's rides post, but I thought it best to post under brake tech as well.

Does the arm on the assembly below need to move freely? I'm thinking yes. Just haven't seen this before and wanted to get a second opinion.

I say yes! This appears to be the bracked that mounts the vaccuum booster to the firewall? The arm is a pivot point/actuator for the master cylinder. The easier this operates, the smoother pedal action you have. Looks like it could stand a good cleaning and re-paint?????

Codeman,
you're correct it is the booster/firewall bracket. I agree it makes sense that this needs to have some movement.

Originally, I thought the booster was bad because I couldn't figure out why the brake pedal would not return. I'm not going to fret on the $300 I spent on a new master cylinder and booster because those are important safety items and most likely would need replacing anyway............right??:icon_question:

It is nice to have reliable brakes!!!! I've got to bite the bullet down the road for a rebuild of the booster and m/c. Where did you source the booster??
