motor mount misalignment

I am trying to install my rebuilt 304 onto the rolling chassis of my '67 Scout. I am using rpt motor mounts. With the mounts installed on the frame, the threaded studs on the top of the motor mounts are about 3/8" too close together. I am stumped about how to correct this. I guess I could lift the engine back up and drill a new hole in the engine mounting bracket on one side. This would place the engine slightly out of its "engineered" position. Would that be a problem? On the other hand, I could drill a new hole on each side with appropriate welding up of the old holes. This would keep the original alignment. But maybe I am overlooking a real easy fix. I would appreciate any suggestions. Pineneedle

Lift the motor and tilt the mounts so they start just start in the holes and lower the engine.

Pineneedle: please give the store a call. If you have a stock frame mount and the holes and studs don't align it is possible that the mount was miss made but give Jeff or the crew at IHPA a call and explain the problem.

We no longer stock rpt products so any calls about the mounts will need to be directed to the manufacturer. I doubt anything is wrong with the mounts though. As Craig stated leave the mounts very loose(do not tighten the nuts down). Install is made easier if you hang the driver side mount off the engine and have the passenger mount loosely on the frame. Once all lowered down everything will settle in. If it doesn't you have either a frame problem or mount bracket issue.

Thanks for the suggestions. I suspected that there is a way to do this, and my inexperience is the real problem. So, all is well until the next crisis. Pineneedle

Well most of were inexperienced at one time or another. What's important is sticking with it and working through it. Success is much more precious when one has had to go through difficulty to achieve it.

Thanks for the good advice. I did the "loosen the nuts" thing as recommended, and with the aid of two guys (with me on the engine hoist), we got it to go together nicely. I really appreciate the help. Pineneedle
