Michael Mayben is right again!

I sometimes wonder how the great mm can sleep at night.

Being correct so much of the time must get tiresome after a while.

I needed to use the old to-35 this last weekend.

The last time I ran it I had no problems.

This time when I started it, gas started pouring out of the sediment filter like it hadn't been tightened down.

When I took the glass bowl off I discovered the gasket had basically dissolved.

The only thing I can think that would do such damage has to be the stupid e10 we have to run.

And of course, instead of taking the advice of the great mm, I didn't put any stabil or like additive into the tank.

Since I didn't have the time or inclination to go to town for a new gasket I cut up an old leather glove for a new gasket.

It should work until I have a chance to purchase a new gasket.

I can't decide at whom my anger should be directed--me for not following the great mm's advice or the stupid tree-hugging pols who think that adding ethanol to gasoline will reduce green house gases.

Once "whoever" "forced" the gov't to stop using (outlawing) the previous "oxygenated" chemical (cannot remember the name) because it causes cancer and was leaking from gas station tanks into town's underground water supplies, the pols "had to do" something..... In a "timely manner".

Archer daniels midland has been lobbying the gov't for 20 - 30 years to "use" ethanol....

Btw, I read somewhere a few years ago that the oil companies tried (got a "legislator") to add an amendment to some bill to state that oil companies were not responible for cleaning up the wells contaminated by this chemical. Someone spotted it and it got tossed out -- at least then.

I know, a rant :hand: :hand:

I've been warning yawl about this e10 shit for years! We went through the same crapola in '74/'75 when the gummint forced the first gen version of "gasahol " down our throats and it wreaked havoc with marine, motorcycle, industrial engines and "old iron" at the time!

Now we're going around again only this time it's death for this old shit we play with! Even the carb parts developed specifically for 100% alcohol exposure aren't the answer...this fuckin' stuff simply won't burn!

I'm spending all my time now trying to rejuvenate carbs that have had the shit in 'em for only 6 months but are not used onna regular basis. And oem-type fuel pumps are taking a shit all over the place! The commercial shops are being inundated with ten year old vehicles that the efi systems have turned to mush and those folks are looking at upwards of $1500 to bring 'em back from the dead.

You people elected these asshats...now it's time to kick their sorry asses outta sacto and every other capital and then March on washington, hook up with a tea party, and remove the bastards from office.

Robert is thinking of "mtbe". But guess what...that shit was forced into the market place by the state of kaliforkinate many years ago. But where are the bastards now that the shit has turned out to be on par with dumpin' raw sewage in yore fuel tank? The kali-fuckers should be sued into bankruptcy and the fuckin' place dissolved and split amongst Nevada and Arizona. Nobody else wants it.

methyl tert-butyl ether - wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Last ten days...I've done three stihl chainsaws, two of 'em less than a year old. All had moisture droplets in the carbs, all had the "special" accordion fuel hoses rotted through so the fuel pump couldn't pump. Two of 'em had run only "clear" since new. So this "clear" shit is a marketing gimmick in my book. I'm running it only in my sawmix right now for a "test".

Red sta-bil is not the answer for this fuckin' e10...it works "ok", I've used it forever, since way before fuckin' gasahol was born in tha cornbelt. But only the "marine" grade of sta-bil is currently "rated" as effective in stabilizing e10 for any period of time and dealing with the fuckin' moisture absorption issues.

Ya think we got it bad with this old iron scruuin' up, the marine industry is currently under siege with consumer complaints about this shit...shitty fuel is not a "warranty issue" but shitty gummint is!

Do sumthin', git pissed! Shut this fuckin' e10 tap off now! Otherwise, yore gonna see e15 up yore butt in the next 90 days, with e20 soon to follow.

I am absolutely convinced some of these tree hugging druids are not going to be satisfied until we are sitting at home in the dark and cold with nothing to eat.

E10 is bad enough. When they put more ethanol into the gasoline blends we get to purchase we May as well plan to walk. It will be easier than trying to push our old iron down the road.

The only advantage our ihc iron will have over the other makes is we already have holes in the floor so we can do it the fred flintstone way.

Thanks, michael... My "brain" (what's left of it:rolleyes5: ) failed me again. I did not think I would forget those 4 letters...

I know how much you luv the state of kalifornia, but you cannot totally blame CA for mtbe....

I first came across the "product" (mtbe) used in the "winter grade" gasoline for Colorado ( rockies / high altitude?) in the early 90's -- maybe 1991.

This was a number of years before the "stuff" was put in CA gasoline.
