Max steady state RPM for stock 345

I have a 78 Scout with SOA and 33” tires. I just went from 3.55 to 4.56 gears. I’m not looking for any particular max speed because I knew it would be slower but I am curios what your opinions are as to what would be the max rpm would be about running on the highway. Before it was around 2500 rpm to keep up with traffic and it seemed just fine. I haven’t taken it very far on the highway yet but I was driving it around 3000 rpm this morning and it also seemed fine. I really don’t want to damage this motor too bad and I am aware that it’s more of a low rpm higher torque motor.

Thanks

I cruise our units at 2900>3200 rpm all day long when needed.

These engine lower units are extremely strong and basically can't be damaged by running at full rpm continuously. The effectively shut down at around 3600rpm due to their inherent ability to starve for air (in an effective manner).

Thanks for the info; it seems to be running between 60 and 65 mph at those rpms per my buddy’s stock truck. Looks like I’m all good to go. Just out of curiosity, is there a manual transmission or a kit for the t19 with overdrive? I’m not too concerned now but it would be something to put on my whish list.

About the only one I know about that might be adaptable is a gear vendors overdrive placed between the trans and x-fer.

A nv4500 5 speed would do but none of the options are cheap.
