Many many broken gears

After getting a good few whams in combo with a lil jerk motion when turning I removed the diff cover to inspect. The folks at ihon and I were hoping it was just a posi that needed lube.

Both spider gears are heavily damaged. The lil gears that connect to them are bad too. The ring is good. The pinion is missing half of one tooth from what I could see.

I dont wheel this thing often. To be honest it's mostly dirt roads I trudge down. And that is about 6 times a year.

Diddnt find a bunch of teeth in the diff bottom. I wonder where they were flung to.

Lost a tooth on the pinion on my Scout too. It was about 10 years ago, I exit the freeway, roll gently up to a stop light and when the clutch was let out, crunch, crunch, thunk. It was stuck in the middle of the road. No warning what so ever. Sorry about your diff.

A very reputable shop has had the rig all day. (rearend specialties). Good guys over there. There is a 73 IH flatbed in the parking lot. They use it to run parts n stuff. My rigs do not go near the 4x4 parts off road shop or whatever they call themselves. They get awefull reveiws on a regular basis and have high prices to boot.

All new gears are being installed with a good used posi unit. All my stuff was toast. I limped it over this morning. A few large bills will be fleeing from my wallet today but that's life. I'll post pics of the destroyed stuff.

Thats good news and bad news. Im glad its getting fixed by a trustworthy person. And im sorry your wallet is gonna be flat. I hate to see a Scout injured

Here are shots of the removed carrier and pinion.
