Hello

I have a 73 Travelall. It is 2 wheel drive. I would like to turn into 4x. I heard I need new axels, transfer case and transmission.can anyone help in this goal?

What model do you have and does it have ifs (independent front suspension) in other words coils or torsion bars or leaf springs with a straight axle.

If you have a one piece front axle then you will also need driveshaft for the front an intermediate drive shaft and shorten the rear driveshaft.

If you don't have a one piece front axle you will need a frame or extensive work on yours to make it work.

Mr blue smoke. Thank you for the reply. I definitely do not have the front axel.but I do have a 72 that does. The body on the 72 isnt nearly as good. Do you think I would be better off just putting the body on the 72. . the 72 is the 1210 series ? if you have time, could you let me know what you mean by extensive work .
either way, thanl you for helping me.

Mr blue smoke, another quick question. If I can find the truck that is 4 wheel will my body fit it? I would assume not the scouts, but what about the truck?

Thanks for your time.

Is the 72 4 wheel drive?

If not then the swap is body fairly easy if you have a hoist. You can do it without but it is a bit tougher

it really doesn't matter that it is a 1210 other than heavier springs, axle and frame.

The ideal transfer case to get is a np 205 (you will need the frame cross member that it bolts to) you will need the floor plate which cover the transmission.

The 68 frame is different and would not be any easy swap

Mr blue smoke.

I thank you again for your help. Someone who knows what you know is so valuable to me. Thank you for your time and sharing your knowledge.

Yes the 72 is 4 wheel. But I came up with another idea. Seems a shame to a waste to scrap the 72 body. It is in good shape. I am finding a lot of the truck style travelalls. I found a 73 that is four wheel drive.the 73 truck is rusted out, so I won't feel bad about trashing it. I assume that it will bolt right to the 73 body. If this is correct, let me know.

Thanks for everything.
