-62 Scout 80. Truck finally runs great so I am getting to finer details like charging, temp and tank gauges...
Charging voltage is less than 12.5V at 2,000 rpm. This is enough to keep the truck running but lights on for extended periods leads to low battery. The fan belt is adjusted, connectors look good, and the battery is strong.
The truck repair manual provides instructions for how to test the voltage regulator. However, it is quite complex. Should I just replace the voltage regulator and/or alternator, or are there simple steps to take to determine what is causing the low charging voltage?
