Loos alternator pivot

Looking for general opinion on a loose alternator top bolt pivot

Scout II 345 A/C equipped stock alternator mounted under A/C compressor.

Last night going down the road the bottom adjuster/ tension holding bolt snapped and broke allowing the alternator tension to go to zero and the alternator swing loose. I have actually had this happen before so I carry a spare bolt that fits the alternator threads.

Question is this time while replacing the bottom bolt, I noticed the top pivot bolt sees to be loose, the bolt is tight, but the alternator must be wollered out of round.
Does an out of round top mounting hole justify replacing the alternator? Is this very common and not much of a threat to anything ? Is there any danger in the top bolt breaking due to the play in the out of round hole. ?

once the lower bolt was replaced and tension set, it seems to take up most of the play due to the upper out of round mounting hole .

any ideas ?

thank you

Is the top bolt the adjuster side? The top location on the alternator is threaded is it not? I May be confusing the Scout arrangement with the trucks.

The bottom mounting should have a sleeve that clamps down on the boss when the bolt is tightened. That should stop the wiggle.

Can you post a photo for us to see of the loose bolt.

Thanks for getting back to me Rob !

Yes this is the top mounting hole. On my Scout II with A/C the bottom bolt is the adjuster. The top is the one with the sleeve

so I removed the alternator this afternoon and this is what I found. The top mounting hole completely egged out I think this alternator was about 30 years old. So I replaced it. Problem solved

I think vibration from the A/C compressor caused my problem over time. Egged out the hole and that was allowing the alternator to flop around.
