Looking for some Information

Hello everyone,

I have a 1976 cadillac 500 engine that I bought for a car I am restoring. It has green International valve covers on it, I assumed that they had the same bolt pattern, however I just bought cadillac valve covers and while I was swapping them out, I found adapters.

I find it hard to believe that these exist since I haven't seen cadillac to sbc or bbc adapters. Was there ever a point where International used a cadillac 472/500/429 engine?

Thanks,
fernando

If the cadillac valve covers have the International script on them, it is not a cadillac motor. The IH valve cover bolt pattern will not bolt to the cadillac heads. :nono:

Likely that the valve cover adapters you have were custom made.
Others have swapped the 500 cad into IH trucks before.

It is most definitely a 500 cadillac engine. Like I said it had adapters to align the valve covers.

I'm guessing they are custom made as well but it seems to be more expensive than buying taller cadillac valve covers. Specially when the International have the wave pattern on 1 side.

This engine hasn't been in an International, from what I understand they used the valve covers because they are taller than the stock ones so they can clear the rocker arms.

Do International have a same bolt pattern as anything else, perhaps something more common?

Thanks for taking the time.

Hi fernando,

there is actually a very cheap adapter available. If you're using a Chevy trans behind your 500 let me know and I'll send you the info.

IH never used a cadillac engine in any of their vehicles. Btw, the 429 is not the same engine family as the 472/500.

The 304/345/392 found in the pickups and scouts have an fairly unique pattern.

I would be interested in those adapters if you don't need them. I'm sending you a pm (private message).

You are correct, the 429 isn't part of the same family, I was thinking the 425 but I got confused. I have a turbo 400 behind the cadillac 500 but if you could send me the info on that it would be great.

I will respond about the adapters privately.

Thanks
fernando

Cool. I'll get you the part number off the set in the garage. Shoot me an email about those adapters when you have a chance.
