Long trip

Thinking of taking my Scout on a vacation trip, roughly 150mi/3 1/2, 4 hours. Mostly highway and I've never driven her this far although she is very dependable. Anybody have any advice or stuff to bring on the haul besides tools, and fluids?? Thanks in advance.

Join a "road service" group such as aaa now. Get the enhanced membership that has the "long distance tow" feature!!!! Tape the card to the dash so ya know where it is, and keep the cell phone charged! Put the road service phone number on your #2 speed dial key!

Michael's suggestion of aaa is the most important.

The list of parts / things you can carry can get quite large depending on your "taste" / "predilection".

If your vehicle is in good / maintained shape, there should be no problem -- and with most things that can happen, you cannot carry enough parts anyway.

Radiator hoses and tune-up parts -- though I have never used them in the 35 years I have carried them on long trips.

I did use the spare water pump on a return trip from death valley one year (after 20(?) years of carrying it).

My t/a can hold a lot more "stuff"...

Also, people on the west coast have a different "perspective" of a long trip. I drive the almost 500 miles to death valley in one day (9 - 11 hours "depending").

Enjoy your trip.

I agree, aaa is a must!! I have driven both of my Scout on 3-4 hour trips many times. It has more to do with how well you feel your IH is maintained. Good belts and hoses, no overheating problems. About all I carry is a quart of oil and power steering fliud. And a cell phone!
You just can't predict what is going to fail.

Glad to here all went well!!! It is a little nerve racking on the first couple of long trips, isn't it? For me anyway.
