Just put in a lockrite in the rear of my Scout only about a two hour job seems to be a decent locker for the money ....makes a little noise when turning but for the price not bad ...how many of you run the lock rite in the rear?????
 
I haven’t in mine, but my friend did in his 78 Scout II. And I have never seen a Scout or any other vehicle take so much abuse, he is one if these guys that thinks it is fun to tear stuff up, the lock rite never tore up. Both Dana 44’s, motor mounts, spring hangers, wheel studs, drive shafts, all tore up.
 
I am actually picking one up tomorrow with gears. The guy says the gears are 4:54's. I have 4:56 up front with open diff. Not sure about 4:54's. Will these work with the front gears? Also I can't find 4:54 gears anywhere online.

Whats weird is the guy said he had 4:56 rear and 4:54 front cause they should never be exactly the same especially offroad locked up. I have never heard that before in my life. Anyway. I'll find out tomorrow when I pick them and the locker up what they are for sure. Hope they are 4:56 cause thats what I need.
 
So I got the locker and gears today with all new timkin bearings. Pinion is 11 and ring is 50. So a guy could do the math and say 4.54. Took to my axle guy and he said it all looks perfect and it's 4.56. Like new for only $250 for everything. So it's going in the rear until I get a 60 or 9 in the rear, the the locker going up front.
 
I have a spartan locker in the rear. Basically the same as the lock rite. It does make some noise. I've found that it's quieter with syn. Blend or full syn. Oil. I haven't had any problems with it though.
 
What kind of synthetic blend did you get or run? I'll try that out when I get it put in in a few weeks.
 
I used valvoline the first time. I think I have mobil 1 in there now. I started out running walmart or no name oil. It clunked pretty loud sometimes! That's when I tried the valvoline syn blend. That seemed to help a lot. I don't think the brand matters. Buy what's on sale:d:d
