Here's my 62 Scout I bought a few years ago. Should be working on my rock crawler Scout but I get distracted easy. Its all stock with a 4 cyl and 3 speed. Runs ok but clutch and brake don't work. Going to do a mid 70s cj5 brake master cylinder, wildwood clutch master and forklift slave. Should get it running good enough to cruise some trails around my house. Plans to keep it simple and close to stock.
Pulled the top off and set my half cab top on it to see how it sits. When I opened the pass. Door it fell off. Guess that's probably why the outside door handle was missing. The door hinges broke. Think I have another set or just get quick release hinges. Got the clutch slave Friday. Clutch and brake master's should be here tomorrow so try to work on it this week.
Found a k&n filter that looks like it fits. Started working on the clutch system also. Post up more pics and details when I get it all together and working.
Ok got the clutch working. Used a wildwood master #260-2636. Crown slave cylinder #674815. 54 inch 3an braided steel brake line #fra310054. 1 straight and 1 90 degree 3an bulk head fitting. Could have used a shorter brake line. Something around 45-48 inches would have worked. Started out with a straight fitting and hose end on the slave cyl. But the line hit the skid plate. Then used a straight fitting and 90 degree hose end and it fit but really close to the skid plate. Finally went with a 90 degree fitting and straight hose end and that worked. Used a 3.5 inch long 5/16 fine thread bolt to extend the master cylinder threads but peddle feels low so going to try 4 or 4.5 inch bolt.
Thanks for the complements. Got everything for the brakes but a thunderstorm rolled in. Probably shouldn't work on brakes in the rain since brake fluid suckes water up so fast. Useing a brake master for a 73 cj5 with 4 wheel drum brakes. That let's me switch for a dual master cylinder for safety. The bolt pattern is a little wide but nothing a rat file can't fix. Had to unbolt the heater box to make the master cylinder fit but will be able to just drill new hole's. Get more pics when its all together. Looks like I can use the stock brake linkage also.
Got the brakes hooked up. Removed the tee on the inner fender. Ran a brake line from the hose coming from the front axle and mounted it to the front port of the m.s. Used a coupler from the line coming from the rear brakes and ran that line to the rear port. Got 2 line nuts for 3/16 line to 1/2 x 20 flair to thread into the master cylinder. Brakes work now but left rear wouldn't bleed. Evan pulled out bleader and nothing came out so will haft to look for plug.
Next project is the fuel system. Pulled both tanks to clean or replace them. Very suprised that they are both very clean. Mounting bolts broke off in bottom of both tanks so got to drill them out. Going to order new sending unit, filler and found a non vacc. Fuel pump on rock auto I'm going to try.
Started working on the fuel pump. Going to try this pump. Basic pump looks the same just don't have the vacc. Pump or bowl on the bottom. Arm looks a little different but should be close enough to work. Broke one of the brass adapter fittings on the old pump trying to get it off so need to get one of those before I can get any farther.
Ordered some por-15 paint to paint the outside of the fuel tanks and in the cavity they sit in. The tires that are on it have almost full tread but I've owend it about 5 years and my buddy had it for about 5 years before me. He bought it from a farmer out of his junk pile and he used it for his hunting rig. So pretty sure tires are pretty old. So I'm looking for some tires before I start doing much with it. Probably get some swampers or something since it won't see much road use. Also will use these rims I have from a Bronco I used to have.
Have been busy so haven't worked on eather Scout. Was in oregon last weekend at a friends and his aunt had a few things. Got another half cab and a stock looking roll bar. Think the top is for a 800 because it has a lot more holes for mounting to windshield than my frame does.
So looks like I haven't touched this thing in 7 months. Going on a run new years day and everything I own is in pieces or broke down. Throwing a fuel cell in the back for now to make it run. Want to por15 the inside of the body where the stock fuel tanks go. My high right now is in the 20's so that's not going to till summer. Got the fuel cell and pump mounted and fuel lines ran. Got some tuneup parts coming and a few other stuff to get buttoned up in the next few days.
