Lighting Help!

I'm trying not to beat a dead horse with "lighting problems", but I've tied my brain in knots trying to decipher these wiring diagrams and I'm getting no where.

Vehicle: 1976 Scout II, 304, manual

problem: no dash lights, parking lights, tail lights, hazard lights, turn signals or brake lights (I don't have interior lights installed and the horn is ooc).

I do have headlights.

I do have a new headlight switch installed (no changes occurred after installation).

The bhc are in pretty good shape and are cleaned/making contact.

This must be a simple fix, there are too many problems for it to be complex :)

thanks in advance for any help!

Much like finding a leaking pipe you need to trace down the wires that feed the different circuits so you know what wires are involved.

Most of the issue May be in the steering column switch since so many of the lights that are not working have part of their circuit connected to the turn signals.

I would also make sure all the grounds are good.

Thanks for the input guys. I think I'm just going to study and study those wiring diagrams! The fuse block is a mess, so maybe I'll just replace that too (hopefully after I find the problem).

I dont quite understand the fuse box is a mess..granted these are 30 year old rigs so May be a pic would be helpful..grab your fluke and see if you have any current across the fuse block terminals..if not thats where I would start..far as turn signal switch just check that in the dark by pressing down the horn..if you see sparks fly out (like mine) rest assured all the contacts in there are gone...I dunno..you never told us if you have current to the dash bulbs or the tail lights or other..start checking with your fluke where you have and do not have the juice...most of these old switches (like brake light switch) usually will still work so from your post it appears to be a no juice situation which points right back to the fuse block

Most of that is also tied into the foot high beam switch. If that goes bad you loose lights. Do a volt check on it or just replace it, not to expensive at napa or from Jeff if he has it.

I respectfully disagree. All the floor dimmer does is switch between high and low beam on the headlights and illuminate or darken the high beam indicator bulb in the dash. The interior and instrument lighting is not in series with the floor dimmer. The op also indicated that his headlights work on at least one switch setting.

Hello Scout saints!

Your thoughts and directions have led me to success.

By that I mean I replaced my fuse panel. Although it appeared to be working it wasn't working at its full potential.

$30 and an hour of patient wiring has lead me to my below picture. I now have everything (with a bulb in it) working!

This is the most success I've had in months :smile5:

thanks again for your help!

(ps: if you see anything obviously wrong in this picture let me know:smile5:)

Good news..yea dimmer switch only feeds 1 wire(?) to the panel light (high beam/low beam so not really an issue here)..the rest of your problem I all traced back to the fuse box so good deal..kinda figured it was in there..god speed
