lifting points

I am planning on pulling my 345 engine. It is my first time pulling an engine and decided what the hell. I have the intake manifold off already, so is there other places to mount to pull this engine? I will be using a chain hoist. Figured a forklift was just too jumpy.

A few was to hook on.
1) the intake manifold bolts at the 4 corners. Swap in longer ones and put the bolts through chain. I like the 4 corner approach. Bolt the two loops together in the center forming an x.
2) you can buy a 4bbl carb adapter that goes in place of the carb to lift by. They are very strong. Very simple..

3) pick holes in the corners of the heads to bold the chain to... I don't like lifting perpendicular to the bolt unless I can tighten the holding bolts down on the chain..

I agree with Robert.

Just make sure your hoist is big enough. The sv345 weighs about twice as much as what a sb Ford or Chevy weighs.

If you didn't already have the intake off I would suggest a carb lift plate like Robert did. I don't know how many engines my Dad and I pulled without one, but we finally added it to our tool box and haven't looked back. It makes the job way easier.

I've used the other method Robert suggests, but I only use 1 chain. I use heavy chain and heavy washers and bolt it diagonal front to back across the lifter valley pan cover, then find the middle and lift there.

I had the manifold off on mine when I pulled it and used 4 bolt holes, one on the front and back of each head, to pull it. I used heavy chain and never really sensed any issues.

I forgot to mention that you can buy a load balancer. Really slick if you need to angle things like to sneek in an engine/trans assebled.
There are a lot of different makers and qualities availible... Find one that suits your needs.

If you drop an engine in by yourself like I did this would be your best friend.
