I have a 71 800B. Im looking to put 35-37" tires under it. A early thread said its a bad idea to do a SOA with stock axles. Which axles do it need, or is there another option? What lift do I need to do for the back also.
Thanks

There is no exact axle to use or set way in performing a SOA on a Scout 800. There are a ton of options out there and I wish I had the time to name them all off. Look at the reader rides section for other who have lifted their 800 to give you some ideas. Your budget will also play a role in what direction to go.

With 35's or 37's you have a lot of homework to do. Stock 800B's had, I believe Dana 44 rear and Dana 30 front. The 44's were two piece and are not the strongest. I wouldnt suggest using the Dana 30 either. If you want to spring over you are going to have to grind down the housing for your perch. My suggestion is find some different axles. The question you then have to ask yourself is what is the purpose of your vehicle. To put it simply, are you going to wheel it or is it mainly for looks. I would suggest finding some Dana 44's that have already been sprung over unless you dont mind a cut and turn for the front. I bought a Chevy Dana 44 that came from the factory already sprung over and went from there. 35's and Dana 44's will hold up if you are just driving around town. They can hold up wheeling too if your not too throttle happy. As for lift a simple spring over will not yield enough lift to clear 37's with stock springs. Maybe 35's if your'e not trying to flex. I run 33's with stock springs and I am fine. I would suggest Jeep wagoneer springs, that is what im doing next and you should gain enough clearance but like I said depends on your use of the vehicle. You can fit any tire with a sawzall . There is plenty of different options but I would suggest doing some searching around the forums to see what you want to do. With 35's or 37's you have to also ask how am I going to stop the vehicle with the bigger tires and how am I going to regain lost power (re-gear), and most importantly how am I going to steer. You will need to change your draglink angle $$$. Hope that helps.
