O.k. So, I think everything is finally cool, having corrected the excess camber and r and r'ed the hubs. Oh, happy day! I put it all together, and discover this totally confusing development. There is not enough of the axle shaft exposed on the long side to fit the snap ring on. It looks to be about 3/16 in. Too short. I threaded a bolt into the end of the shaft, thinking that it only needed to be pulled out. However, that is not it.
I then took that side apart all the way back to the knuckle, trying to understand how the shaft was coming up short. I am mystified. Somehow, the shaft is not fitting deeply enough into the spindle, but I can't figure out why. The cosmo shims do, of course, lengthen the stack, but there were shims in the axle when I took it apart, and everything seemed to fit then. Also, there is a shim on the short side and it is fine. I would appreciate any advice or suggestions because I am stumped.
