Installing DUI in Scout 800

I'm currently installing a dui ignition in my Scout 800 and I have run into clearance problems with the water hose and thermostat assembly. The ignition will not turn with the thermostat and cover attached. Does anyone have any solutions? I can post pictures if that will help with ideas.

Who did you purchase this from? It should have come with a modified thermo housing to properly address this well known IH app issue.

I purchased it from IH Parts America. It did come with the modified thermostat housing but the water cap/hose attachment into the thermostat housing is blocking any rotation to adjust timing as well as placement of the hose. I took pictures.

I know its a lot like shoving ten pounds of shit into a five pound sack, but can the distributor be re-stabbed so that cap hold down bracket is clear of the housing which would allow some rotation?

I put the ignition in again to allow for more clearance, but there still isn't enough room for the hose to go on. I only have one option, which is to find another neck that fits.

Hmm. I wasn't thinking about the 800 water neck aspect. The sii water neck is shaped differently. Still, you can't be the first 800 owner to have encountered this dilemma. The cap has 4 spring loaded retainers. It sucks to even think about modifying a high dollar item in such a way, but I wonder if you could shave off the plastic leaving one retainer exposed if not completely removed. Perhaps that would give you just enough clearance for the hose to slip on. Or what about using an sii water neck and changing your upper hose to accommodate? I don't even know if this is doable. Just spit-balling at this point. Have you tried contacting Jeff to see what he says? He might even see this post before you do and weigh in. There has to be a way.

I talked to him today on the phone before closing time and came up with one option. Jeff mentioned that the 71/72 sii's used a water neck that jogs over to the driver's side and I was able to find one in our stash of parts. Since the 800's w/ a v8 use a drivers side upper outlet on the radiator the more common 73-80 sii water neck won't work... If nothing else is found to work then this option is still open.

I have a 78 traveler with a 345. When I installed my dui, I used the 71-72 waterneck az well. Using that waterneck allowed me to fit the dui in with no problems and no modifications to the distributor.

That looks exactly like what I need. That should work great. I will post the pictures after the part arrives and I get it painted for anyone with a 800 that is trying to do a dui upgrade. Thanks to everyone for their input. I'm hoping to get it running before the 16th when the brooks, oregon event is kicking off.

I have purchased the 71-72 SSII water neck that fits my ignition issue. I will post pictures as soon as it's painted and mounted for future reference if anyone needs it.
