Howdy,

I have an 82 IH s series box truck with a 345 and an r 7940 a (2210) carb that I need a power valve for. Can't find it anywhere. I did find a carb kit at napa so I am searching...

Welcome to the forum gt!!

Can you post a pic of the exact power valve you need???

Your carb should carry an ihc part number....483449-c91 stamped on the bowl right with the list number. That is an oem 2210 carb for a m/y '77 medium duty truck/345 with California emissions and ported egr.

As you can see from reading through the posts in this forum section, there is a lotta confusion regarding the power valve component in the "22xx' carb series. Also...have you verified that the power valve actuator does function correctly? That is done by using a mity vac hand vacuum pump. If ya don't know how to do that let us know and I'll describe the process. Failure of the power valve actuation system is the number one issue with these carbs!

As you have also read, some carb kits will have both power valves included, but the wrong main body gasket. I do have one possible source for a power valve only but I need to see exactly which one you need. No mystery here, just need more info so that we can help ya inna accurate manner!

Hey thanks for the help!

Here are the numbers:

r 7940 a
483449-c91

if you need a pic of the valve I'll have to wait til Sunday when I am back in the shop. I actually broke the thing when I was removing it to clean. Yeah, I know I should have used the proper tool or been more careful...

Thanks!

Ok, your carb data does match the Holley references I use.

And yes, if you can post a pic of the part ya need, I can make a positive I.d.

But from memory...of the two power valves seen in this pic,is it the "short" one as shown on the left in this pic...or the "long" one shown on the right side?? That's all I need to know!

If ya haven't read through this thread:

http://www.forums.IHPartsAmerica.com/carb-tech/511-Holley-22xx-series-carb-stuff.html

You should take the time to do so. Right now it contains most of the info we've developed regarding the Holley 2210/2210c/2245 carbs and there are several shots regarding the power valve situation.

What a great resource!

The valve I need is the one on the left!

I"ll look in my stuff and see if I have a jet-tool to properly install the new valve. If not, I'll grind a notch in an old screwdriver and handle it that way.

I work for the nc museum of life and science and the truck was donated to us by motorola several years back. I came aboard in August of 08 and it had not been in service for 3+ years. It's an 82 with a 345 and I noted that your information on the carb states that it was for an earlier year model. Not sure what the deal is on that but I'm gonna refresh the unit and get it back on there. I'll take a few pics of the engine on Sunday and shoot em' your way. It May be that the engine was replaced at some point so perhaps you can id that as well so I can tune it properly eg: base timing, curb and fast idle etc.

Let me know how I can purchase that valve from you!

Regards from north carolina!

I want your job gt! What a great deal!! I'm a total museum/history freak!

We just sent a reconditioned carb for a 1967 Scout 800 fire truck to a nook plant near charlotte! Post up some pics of the rig under discussion when ya can under "reader's rides"!

As ya can see in that other thread, ron identified that the standard motor parts hygrade kit you need is p/n 929a. The 928c kit I have used before has both types of power valves included but does not have the correct main body gasket. And that 929a kit has the "heat dam" base gasket/insulator which is imperative to use on these engines. That gasket individually is around $15 so that's a great bargain as it's included in the kit!

We don't stock those kits but that should certainly be an easy item for ya to obtain locally. I don't use napa kits for any carb work here, I just got tired of the contents always varying and never being correct for any application on this old stuff.

The power valve is not available separately outside of a kit. But...daytona parts co. Has had those available in the past, don't know if they still do. Daytona is an excellent company to work with and is an old time carburetor builder/supplier, I do source parts from them when needed:

daytona parts company - providing world class carburetor restorations and kits for carburetors

Just about anything else under the hood engine-wise we can help ya with, with a few exceptions, the sv motors used in the medium duty trucks are the same units as used in Scout and light line stuff. Mucho shared parts and interchangeability.

And finding swapped around stuff like carburetors and distributors on 30+ year old rigs is very common and almost "normal"! You are very fortunate that your rig is not a "governed" application, that's a whole additional set of problems, though we can certainly deal with those also!

Thanks for hooking up with us, that just adds another dimension to what we've got going on here!
