I have a running scout

I had to pull the tranny and swap it out, so that slowed my process just a bit. I am hoping to drive it around the yard this week. And, I do al my own welding.

Not that it needed to be done, but I was given some pimp stainless struts so I mounted 1 to the hood. Scout hoods are dumb because they can only be lowered from the passenger side to release the latch. Now I can close it from either side.

I like the ss strut:icon_up:

hey I see you have seats. You never did come by and get those seats I have. I going to put them on craigs list and get rid of them as I need the room.

I forgot about them to tell you the truth. Were they factory buckets with bases?

No bases, they are buckets vinyl covered, but not factory. They look to be out of an older big car. They came in my Scout, the guy took out the factory buckets and put them in there. Since he still had the factory buckets I put those back in.

Ok, I think I will pass on them, thanks though. If I need to make bases I will use the seats I have.

I farted around with it for a bit today and got all the lights working. I ended up using some of the oval trailer lights for my tail lights. I just could not justify spending $85 each for new rear lenses that will probably end up broken anyways.

My rear bumper is just about done. I just need to clean off the splatter and paint it. It wraps around the corners and will have some spreaders bolted from the outriggers to the frame.

Been working on this trying to tie up all the loose ends. Here is the new bumper. There are 7 1/2" bolts holding it on. 3 horizontal and 4 vertical, I do not think it will get torn off in a hard pull.

I need to push the front end out a bit so the tires clear the firewall when I turn to full lock. It is easier to trim the front of the fenders then the rear of them.

That is with the bumpstops. I re-did the mounts today and moved the axle 2" forward.wheel base now is 105ish

The new motor fired up, now I just need to hook up some radiator hoses and tie up a couple loose ends in the engine compartment. I dropped it off last Wednesday to have my gears installed, so it should be done tomorrow or Tuesday then it goes to the exhaust shop. My punch list is getting shorter. I think my last major task is to build a cage in it before our hollister trip next month.

I drove it around the house a bit. I need to figure out why my FI is acting goofy. 1 of my injectors just started leaking around the top. And it really bogs down under a load, like it has no power, it sputters and coughs if I just hammer down the pedal.
I am not running an esc or knock sensor so I jumped the wires b7 and c14, or b14 and c7 I dont remember right now. The only codes it is throwing is 12,42,43. I want to get this dang thing drivable

Got laptop?
Got cable?
Leaking injector not that big of a deal unless it pouring in.

I would get the numbers while running.
Post a pic of the numbers. If the temp sensor looks correct. The o2 sensor bouncing all over the place, etc.
Is the fuel close to 128?

Can you see it spraying fuel in a nice cone when you give it some gas

I might have an extra esc some where.

I have a laptop but need to get a cable, the fuel is a nice cone. The o2 sensor is new the temp sensor is not. Would running the esc and knock make that much of a difference instead of the bypass wire?

I was having the exact same problem. I didnt think there would be that much difference running either configuration you mentioned. Turned out I was getting air somewhere in my fuel line. Just a thought.

No! By tying the signal high your just telling the ECM the motor is not pinging. (I.e knock)

are you running a stock 350 chip? There are 4 letters / numbers on the prom that will tell us if its a 350 chip. When I first started I had a 454 ECM and had issue trying to get it to work as it would dump fuel like a mofo. Next would be to make sure you have 305 or 350 injectors vs 454 again they would dump more fuel then you motor can handle. There are numbers on the top of the injectors. Very small, faint numbers at that.

Did you set the tps throttle positioning sensor to .57 volts?
Bill has a startup procedure on here. The laptop cable is what I used to see what mine was doing.

I can bring the cable and laptop to hollister.

I need to go through the start up procedure again and double check everything. I kind of have a bastard setup. I have a sbc400 with a bb TBI, I am not sure what injectors are in it. I will go out and see. The ECM is from a 350. I missed the part about setting the tps voltage because I never touched that.

I am not sure if I am going to make it to hollister, for sure I dont think the Scout will.

Ok so last night my Scout almost burned to the ground, I was ready to set it ablaze. I go out to drive it to pull some old fence post since it is soft out. I have 2 flats :pissed: get them aired up and scoot around to the back field, as I get out to hook up a strap the Scout sputters out and dies. Wth, I was pretty sure it had fuel I had just put a few gallons in it when I got it all running. So I am cussing and fighting it, it would start then run for a second and die, over and over. Bang there go the keys into the windshield, now I need a new one. I go to get some gas and all my cans are empty, great. Crap is flying everywhere now, I was not in the mood to deal with it. If some one had 100bucks here last night they could have had it. So I left it out in the field overnight until I cooled off.
So this morning I got some more gas and put in it, fired right up. Of course it is out in the field now with 2 flat tires, screw it I will drive it like that. Get it around to the front and back in the drive way. I go in the garage and fire up the air compressor to fill the tires, turn back and there is a giant puddle of tranny fluid. I just cannot win. Pissed off I came inside before I do something stupid like cut it up. Doing a little research I found where it is leaking, the stupid down shift cable hole that I do not have a cable for. I did not know that the th350 needs a kick down cable, I thought thats what the vacuum mod on the back of it was for. Ok easy fix I hope.
Now I am trying to figure out why when I hammer down it floods out and dies. I have 2 different injectors in it, and 1 sprays fine the other just dumps. I hate this damn Scout, but would be mad if I did not have one. I just want it to be done so I can drive it. After I save up a few grand for tires.
