Hysteer arm stud installation ?

So a couple of years ago I bought a complete pm hysteer set up.knuckles, super arms studs ect.. My question is,what is the trick to install the studs into the top of the knuckles?I know that the "short" threaded side goes into the knuckle, and has a diferent pitch than the long side. When I first tried to install one with the "duble nut locked together" trick,it went in about 1/2" and then stripped the threads on the stud.so I pipe wrenched that one out,and tried again.exactaly the same result.next I tied to heat the nuckle very gently, and tried again.this time I was lucky enough to to get the stud in about 5/8" before it snapped clean in half in front of the jam nut's.to remove it I had to weld a nut on it and try again to remove it before the locktight set.on the way out the stud snapped in half again, but luckily leaving about a 1/2" piece still in the knuckle, with absolutly no way to get any thing on it as it is about a 1/16" inside of the threads.
Besides heading into a machine shop, witch I will have to do anyway for the one knuckle, anyone have any suggestions?

Very possible you just have to much thread interferance and you will never get the studs in. If you can determine the thread pitch and diameter. Find or by a good spiral point 2 flute tap with ground threads. You want h2 or h3 threads speced on the tap (thread interferance/ clearance call out). Go look on mcmaster.com and buy one. With the new tap rethread the knuckle but be sure to use cutting oil like rapid tap or tap magic ( also mcmaster.com) or osh hardware stores.

Then clean the threads of the oil and insert the studs.

Just what I didn't want to hear.but you are right.I kind of already knew the answer, just really didn't want to face the fact that after buying a set of 600.00 knuckles and arms that I would have to throw another handfull of money at them just to make them work.what shocked me the most is how soft the studs are.they can't be even a grade 5,and probably even softer than that.just for fun,I took one of the stripped studs and secured it in the vise on my drill press.a standard hss bit [and not a sharp one by any means] Cut threw the stud like butter.even making 2" long curls, not chips like you would get from a grade 5 bolt.I will try to contact Jeff and see if he can help out,as this has got to be a manufacturing problem.

Although it happens from time to time I have yet to see someone have such difficulty installing the hysteer studs as you have had. The studs we sell all come from partsmike. If I'm not mistaken these are a grade 8 stud and are made by arp but I would have to confirm this. Try using anti-seize next time when installing the studs. Also we use these exact same parts on our in house build-ups and have never had a issue like this.

Well just an update,I just got back from the machine shop and the problem was that two of the tapped holes in the knuckle where not tapped with a bottoming tap.so the studs would only go in until it hit the area that was still at a taper and then stop.both holes had good threads about 5/8" in and then the taper started.niether of the holes was tapped all the way threw.so the machinist took out the stud that was broken, then ran a bottoming tap[blind tap] Into all of the holes on both knuckles.when I got home I tried to install the three remaining studs that I had and they went right in. So three more studs and lock nuts and the problem will be solved.oh and I had him check the hardness of the stud that broke on the way out,but I will not get the results until tommorrow as they were closing.I will post up when I here.

I'll bring this up to partsmike and let him know that some of the holes are not being threaded all the way. Give me a call so I can set you up with some fresh hardware. Sorry for all the problems that you have experienced.
