I purchased your Robert Shaw style thermostat for a 345 and because of all the forum talk of poor quality (in general, not necessarily those from IHPA) tested it this am prior to installation. How far should the poppet separate below the flange? I couldn't tell anything moved at first, but then noticed the poppet dropped about a 1/16 inch below the flange (reproducible, 3-4 tries). That doesn't seem adequate. How far should it separate?

Ok, tried again using my infra-red thermometer instead of the wife's meat thermometer (now know to be a pos). At full boil, about 210-215 degrees it opened about 1/4-5/16" so I think that's probably good. Pretty sure I ordered the 195 degree, so it will might open further with another 5-10 degrees.
Sounds like it is working correctly.
