Hollister / November 12-13

Google the address for the restaurant:
2360 technology pkwy, hollister, CA 95023

it’s near the airport on san felipe, in the corbin motorcycle building.

I've had my share of camping in crummy weather, so I am planning on just heading down for the day on Saturday. Unless its totally pouring.

Well I did some side wrenching and taking some old radiators to recycle so im all in now we'll have to se if my brick is all in btw thanks cheese ill pull it tomorrow

Put us down for 4 maby 5 . We plan on leaving castrovalley by 7 am sat . That should get us to breakfast at the diner in hollister befor 9 .

Dave just called. Sycamore is closed.

Camping at the upper level, adjacent to the rock pile. First come, first served.
He is not sure how crowded it will get.

Definitely bring your ez ups and chairs.

First off, we had a very big scare late in the afternoon. We just finished playing in the obstacle area and returned to camp. Carl, cheese and scooter went out for the last ride of the day. Climbing up a long steep incline, scooter had carb issues which stalled the truck. Beginning to back down, the sii hit a rock/rut [iirc] Which angled the truck sideways. Scooter barrel rolled 4 times before a tree stopped the momentum – upside down. Had the truck missed the tree, it would have continued for another 40-50 feet downhill before leveling out.

Unbelievably, kimball only sustained a few cuts on his hand. Naturally he was shaken up, but he is ok. His roll bar prevented a tragedy. Carl and cheese didn’t see it, just heard it.

It’s dark by now when cheese came back to get us. Carl stayed with kimball. Hats off to carl and Joe for orchestrating an impressive truck rescue. After 2-3 hours, kimball’s Scout was back at camp.

I’ll let the others fill in more of the details. Pictures to follow.

on a lighter note. It was a fun day.
Let’s see if I got everybody:
dave, justin, cheese, cary, jayson, rob, ramon, monica, vanessa, stacy, Joe, hannah, morgan, kimball, marty, pete, sean, ben, les, evan, carl, zoe, kimball. It was good to see pete as it’s been awhile.

It rained on dave and justin Friday night, but was dry on Saturday. The sun would peak through the clouds every now and then. It was a good day.

The obstacle course was muddy and slippery. Everyone had fun with that, especially rob.

I guess the “mini-rub” is changed forever. Years ago, I could navigate the rock pile in my old Scout, but not anymore. That thing is now made for the top truck challenge. One of the deep holes created had a 6'-8' rock face to it.

Wow! That's scary.

I'm glad he is ok.
This is a prime example of the importance of a good cage & safety gear.

I just got back from the rubicon clean up.
It was cold, yet a very nice day out.
Wheeled up to spyder lake/got to see the cabins on the private property. Trail was wet/snowy in sections making it really fun/difficult. Fortunately the slabs were snow free.

Went on a rescue mission last night.... Got to wheel with a few of the actual pirates. My Scout towed a front wheel drive only toyota fourrunner from sluice box to there slabs with little effort.

what more can I say. I made back here to my shop space around 4:30pm Sunday

talken about an adrinaline rush. Once the dust settled from rocken n rollen, the first thing I saw was flames. Not sure how I saw it since I was still straped into my seat with rubber sunny side up. Fortunately I was able to slide out from under neath the mess and start pouring what few water bottles I had on me onto the carb which was ingulfed in flames. Plus, I had a half of case of water up the hill, that fell out when I started rolling.
My phone camera was a little dusty after the fact, and it was getting dark. So here'e what I have soon after I crash landed:

Others took photos too. I'm very fortunate to walk away from this on my own accord, with only minor scratches on my hand. That somewhat of a roll bar I have and my steering wheel is what saved my arse. The windsheild was flattened down to the dash.

Those of you who were there and helped out, I thank much. It was a successfull group effort on many levels. No bickering what so ever. Every one envolved in helping out got along and worked together. Joe in his Jeep and carl in his Scout both with winches did a wonderfull job during the hole proccess of getting my Scout back to base camp. Also with ramon at the wheel steering my Scout down the hill as I walked along side as a guide from the pot holes and what not. Thank you to all who helped gather everything that fell out. I'm sure they maybe a few items, like a couple wrenches, that we couldn't see, that are still up there. Easily replacable - but the body parts or life can't be.

I'll take more photos soon as I deal with insurance claims - full coverage. So it's too soon to tell yet which route I will go for the next build up. But, I do plan on keeping all the good usable parts for the next build. Body itself is thrashed and totaled, except for the tail gate:out:

again, than you all for the help

I'm glad to hear that you walked away from it, that's impressive. So, what led to this happening, and now that the body panels are done....buggy-Scout for the next build?

Holy shize kimball - I'm glad you're ok. That is some scary stuff... Great to hear the crew responded the way I knew they would/could.

So the next build starts now!

Trucks can be replaced friends cannot... I am thankful kimball is okay... 4 barrel rolls and he walked away virtually unscathed.

Here are some pics on scene, recovery, next day.

Glad you’re home safe dude.

Of all the parts to keep and include on the next build, I vote for the steering wheel!!

Like pete mentioned – buggy?

back to the obstacle course. Ideal conditions – lots of wet, slippery mud before it begins to harden by mid afternoon. Kinda like powder skiing.

- normally we’ve had this place to ourselves at this time of year, but it was crowded Saturday. Usual wheeling crowd, but mucho stock trucks. For somebody’s birthday party, a group rented a ½ dozen stock jeeps who proceeded to have fun in the mud. Like having gnats continuously buzzing your head.
- the hayward harvesters met up with their yota buddies. They had some nice trucks.
- camping up top like we did this year has its advantages of being close to everything.
- glad I had my rain boots
