Hey IT Guys - Another computer question

I had hughes, I will never go back!:mad5:
I have way too much negative feedback!
I am not wasting another milli sec. On that subject.

I had the verizon mifi, the most mb offered, found I would exceed its limit with no upgrade option just extra charges.
Canceled it and went with my droid.

Very very happy now! For the most part!

Unlimited call/text/e-mail/internet and a gazillion other things this phone can do.

I tether my phone to whatever computer I am using.

Unlimited browsing.

I can browse on the computer and phone at the same time.

And I have so far wherever I go has been for the most reliable.

Only drawback is if you are using tether internet, you lose connection if somebody calls or text you, or if you call or text out.

And only one computer can be connected to it as far as I know.
Unless they have a new app I have not found yet.

Isa,

you wont lose your internet connection when the 4g lte comes out since the phone and data are on different connections.

Did you have the newre hughesnet service or did you have it more than 1-2 years ago? Hughesnet and satelite internet service was terrible up to about 2 years ago and it has really come a long way.

Is there a separate data plan for the mifi access point? I would bet you could get an unlimited plan from verizon for that.

I have a droid x. Very active member of the android community. Have had the original droid, the droid incredible, and now the droid x. Have been on the forefront of rooting and hacking for all three. Let me know if you need any info or help with it.

I had hughes over a year ago and at this point would find it hard pressed to ever go back!

Besides, I can't take hughes with me wherever I go!

Regarding the 4g, I'm good for now, but that would be nice to multi task with no interupt. I might look into it when it does come out.

Not sure what the latest info is on the mifi, I still have my card so if need be I can always reactivate.

The benefit to it was being able to network up to 5 separate computers, but did notice a slight degradation of use when more than one computer would be downloading.

If they do offer an unlimited plan for the mifi I would consider it.

However, as you asked, it does require a separate data plan.

Cool, thanks,

I will keep you in mind!:ihih:

Another good site to check out is tigerdirect.com, I purchase alot of stuff off them, very good service, very fast and good prices as well. Just an fyi if you are shopping around for stuff.

Regarding my latest experience in using a 3g connection through the wifi hotspot feature on the droidx, see the latest post in this thread:

http://www.forums.IHPartsAmerica.com/IH-only-news/5046-mayben-down.html

Sumbitch is kickin' dsl ass right now as I type! I can see our relationship with qwest as a wireline provider coming to an end in the next few months as we gain more confidence in the viability of using only the droid hotspot as our primary I-net connection here at the shophouse and on the road.

If this is viable (and Jeff down at the Grass Valley location has proven that it is), then we'll be through with paying for wireline service when we're not home for weeks at a time to use it. We pulled the plug on the three hardwire phone lines we had a year ago and went cell all the way, but the at&t shit-for-service in this market created my most recent lack of communications issues.

Last nite's test of using the droidx for multiple machine connection to the 'net was an earthshakin' revelation in the tek wars...but the real test is coming up over the next few weeks as we hit the road and move through many other verizon markets.

We're making some headway here at ihon Grass Valley with the new pooter gear.

Got the new hardware burning in out in the shop right now and I have this connection up and running by bluetooth through the droid x tether. Bubba forgot to include a wireless radio in the new dell package so I stuck a bt dongle inna spare hole and away we go!

Even over bt, this 3g connection is super-fast in comparison with dsl.

Since this box was built and loaded just a few weeks ago, it has nearly all of the updates that stream in constantly for microsuk stuff and everything else. We got avg running here now for virus killin' along with firefox for accessing neverneverland.

We'll take the old system down afterhours and install this one as the master control center, then punch down all the hardwire lan drops and see what else we can scruu up this week.

And all this from inside the new steel building while watching the gps looking up at where the sky is supposed to be on the other side of the insulation!

Let me know if y'all need any help. I'm quite the computer nerd and pretty handy with a rj45 crimper. Will work for beer. I also own a crimper and have plenty of connectors.
