I was asked if I was trying to do a GM conversion. I am new to all of this and have no clue what that is. In "the world according to google" its converting grams into ounces. :). But I am told there is a tread about this that I am to use as explaination. Can anyone direct me there? Thanks bunches for the help!

Wide open ended question. What type of GM conversion are ya actually looking for? Motor swap? Transmission swap? Front axle swap? Need I go on?

Little more specifics of what you're looking into converting would be helpfull. I'm not trying to be rude, but only trying to figure out what exactly you are looking for.

I appologize. I had actually mentioned to the guy who talked me into a Scout that I was wanting plug wires and wished I could use the hei. I asked since I didn't have a points system and was using the pertronix was there any reason I couldn't change the dist cap. He said he had the hei on his scouts. He then said "you're wanting to do a GM conversion?" I asked him to explain it to me cause I have no idea of what he was talking about and he said to look it up that there was a thread. I really don't have any more information than that.

Oh gotcha. The hei distributor setup was concieved by GM. Hince the "GM conversion". And there has been some Scout(IH) owners who have done that swap into thier IH motors.

I use the pertronix kit in my scouts. I have not found a need to go any other route afterwards. It's a matter of preference.

There are many types of GM conversion's, as I mentioned in my last reply, which is why I asked. One comes to mind of converting the front brakes on the Scout front axle to the GM style brake components. Which is very popular.

I'm sorry. I'm so new my Scout should be green. Sometimes I feel like you all are talking a different language lol. So what should I search for to find the thread?

Lol. No worries about being new. I been there done that, but with a slight advantage of being a gear head for many years. My search results on the dizzy(short for distributor) "GM conversion" turned up a bunch of un related posts. But here's a link to the dui hei distributor that IHPA sells - hei dizzy. There maybe some write up on installing it some where.

Any time.

Btw - nothing wrong with the pertronix kit you are currently using. Unless you are actually having issues with it. The hei, in theory basically does away with the round canister style coil (which typically mounts in a seperate bracket mounted off the intake manifold) and has it mounted ontop of the dizzy cap.
