Help with non-IHC parts

Help!!!!

My wife's 2000 chrysler t&c awd mini-van needs a new front u-joint on the rear drive shaft.

The problem is it is a non-serviceable item and the only way in comes in as a complete rear drive shaft from the dealer. To the tune of almost $1000.00.

Do any of you have access to the parts to fix the car for less than what has been quoted to me so far?

Thanks.

These folks can build or supply any driveline ya need:

driveline service - driveshaft specialists

They May have those problematic "non-serviceable" drivelines already built up and service 'em onna exchange basis.

Many similar companies around the nw... We use driveline's location here in the eugene area quite often.

Unfortunately, mm is wrong in this case.

I have spent quite a bit of time online and on the phone this morning, including driveline service and their supplier in CA.

What I have discovered is unless I want to buy used, my only option is the dealer.

I have found one used driveline. One has to wonder if it is worth the effort since it came out of car with 131k miles on it.

Since the chrysler awd mini-van was not the biggest seller there is no real market for the aftermarket to build or stock the part.

The local chrysler garage tells me that twelve are already in the system on back order. Consequently, he has no idea as to when I could expect delivery.

Due in large part to the weird layout, even custom driveline shops won't consider building a custom driveline. It has something to do with making something that will balance properly and something the builder can warranty. The front joint is a sort of combination between the old style detroit enclosed joint and a cardon joint. It is "glued" rather than welded to the end of the shaft. So swapping the end for something different and rebuildable is a non-starter.

So, until the tax refund check arrives, the mini-van will have to stay in the garage.

Thanks for your input.

I suppose the only bright spot is with the mini-van out of service it puts the t-all into front line service.

I am glad someone put seat belts in it so I can put the baby in a car seat in the t-all.
