I am building a 1976 Scout and have gotten a set of xd addict wheels and I do not want to cut my center caps so I got a Dana 44 out of a dodge with the vacuum lock so it doesnt have the lock at the hubs and will fit inside my center caps. My problem is I do not want to narrow the axle because I like the width but the center pin holes are 1 1/8 to wide on each side. The easiest I think would to mill down the leaf sping 3/4" but I'm not sure of the safty of this, but I could mill the housing and removed the studs and replace it with a u bolt but not sure if there is enough room for this before getting to far in the housing.
