Harmonic Balancer Wobble

I have a 73 (or 75 depending on what you’re looking at) Scout with a 345 and 727 tf that I’ve been tinkering on. I recently replaced an old struggling Holley 2300 with the 7448 model that’s been recommended here.

While adjusting the carb I noticed a slight vibration at slow idle. It looks like my harmonic balancer pulleys have a little bit of wobble and there’s some rubber coming out of the back of the balancer. I did a bit of searching and it sounds like it might need a rebuild or replacement? If so, how big of a job is this?

I’m a pretty amateur mechanic so I wanted to confirm what I’ve read.

Also if it’s relevant, the other things I've repaired/replaced on the engine:
Replaced gold box with pertronix
Flushed radiator
New thermostat and radiator hoses

Yes you will either need to get your dampner rebuilt or purchase a rebuilt unit which we have available on our online store. It's easier to remove the dampner with the radiator removed. Otherwise pretty simple procedure when used with the correct tools (hub puller and dampner installation tool).

Thanks for the info,
If I buy an off the shelf dampner will I need to get the engine rebalanced? Or is it safer to have the original rebuilt?

Always safest balance wise to have your dampner rebuilt. If you send us your core we can have it done and sent back to you. Same price as seen on the web store.
