Ham class

Thanks for posting this! I went to the class yesterday. I always wanted a ham lic. I just didn't know how to get started! I am studying for the test now. Thanks again!

I'm ready! I will study a little more today and then not look at it all tomorrow. I am starting to score in the 90% on the practice exams so I will be ready.

Congrats on the license, you should have a call sign here pretty quick as the forms where mailed in on sat after the testing.

I bought one of the cable adapters, but going to get the above, as they look more durable. Wait, just bought one, will let you know if it fits here shortly. I got the cable version as I know that would give clearance to the volume knob.

Don't get me wrong the stock rubber ducky works fine, and thats what I have. But a full size 5/8 antenna will give you better range and clarity.

For in the rig, I highly recomend a full size radio. The power and range will be way better. I can talk on the mount diablo repeater from the rubicon with my full size radio, 65 watts. The price for a full size radio is less expensive than a hand held.

I also have a ft60 hand held and I carry it with me when I'm out of the rig.
I also have one of the cheapos off ebay. The are a little tricky to program, but a good bang for the buck .

I could have saved myself a bunch of seaching by coming to this site instead of the fcc! No one told me you have to type a comma in between the first and last name:incazzato:

thanks for the radio info. I am looking at a yaesu ft2900r radio and a diamond m285snmo ant. (52") sound like a plan? I value your opinion! I want a good setup but I don't want to spend a fortune on it.

I have both too, but have not installed the full size in the rig yet.

You can get a lot better reception by running a full sized antenna, or even a 1/4 wave for ht. I just bought the srh77ca diamond antenna For my yaesu ft60 ht, as its a cheap upgrade to the stock rubber ducky.

The rubicon trail foundation has recommend 2 radios. They did this so users could help each other with thier radios. I.e programming and what not.

They recommend the yaesu ft60 And yaesu ft8800

John can get you a good price on radios as he does a group by for those taking the test or anybody who wants to get one.
I think my ft60 was $180

I have this on my iphone. I talk on the eldo repeater. Also talked to my step Dad on an echolink repeater when he was in pa. Last week end.

echolink
