When I mentioned there was no drain plug, that is not entirely correct...there is a "filler" plug on that top tower on some versions (not all) that actually is supposed to serve as a vent. The illustrations and service procedures shown in the service manual covers only one particular version of the gemmer gear and is not representative of the specific gear used in Scout 800! There were many variations of the gemmer design used by ihc, so the service procedures are generic in nature.
If ya try and drain though the filler plug (if your gear has one), it will take about three years to let it drip out!
The spec for the lube is 11oz. Of sae 90-weight "sp-type" gear oil. That was plain mineral oil-base gear lube with no additives. I use chain saw bar oil I buy in gallon jugs as it has no additives and is inexpensive.
Pitman arm...I don't know! Fortunately, the c-1 pickup I'm involved with in restoration has excellent balls! But the pitman arm shown in the pic on the gemmer gear is badly worn. Those ball studs were pressed into the pitman arm and then the end was peened/riveted over. I don't have a source for repair of those items right now, but I need one! If it came down to it, and I needed one now for my own personal use, I'd weld up the worn area using stick arc or mig, then hand-grind back to the profile, something like we do when reconditioning the clutch throwout forks for the Scout 80.
It's possible that someone like white post restorations in virginia does that type work. Since you are the first one around here to bring this up, I'll see what I can find out about this, I have a few more Scout 80 pitman arms that need to be freshened also. Since these are steering parts, there is some product liability associated with doing this type work and I don't know if anyone will take this on, but let's see what we can find out!
Repair kits for the rod ends are available and fairly common, we did have some nos repair kits on the shelf at ihon, don't know if they have sold or not, you would have to call about those as that stuff is not shown in the online store. The same rod end kits were also used on the '35 model and go back to at least the early 20's!
