... gear pitch ? ...

72 with a 304 727 torque flight pretty much stock under construction rig... Well I have a question about the gear pitch for the gear on the rear of the trans into the transfer case . The old 4 speed trans gear had a part number of b3c5 18 8 55 danac4 and the 727 I got with it has a part number of p8r61 18 8 56 Dana d8 ... The truck was running before I got with the 4 speed . So if anyone knows how to decifer those numbers that would be great or possibly steer me in the right direction to find out if it is correct . Thanks for reading !

The bull gears are not interchangeable. The auto bull gear hs to stay with the auto, and the transfer cases must stay also. If you havent removed them or gotten them mixed up your ok. Sorry I cant tell you the pitch but if you look in the transmission section you'll find a thread with all this info. Trust me there are many about this.

If you just want to know the gear pitch you take the number of teeth plus two and divide by the diameter of the gear. You have to measure the pressure angle.

We have several threads in the transfer case section that deal with the "bull gear" variations for the married d18, d20, and d300 transfer cases. Spend some time in that sub-forum reading the information and looking at the pictures.

The bull gear must match the intermediate gear inside the transfer case as to the tooth angle and the tooth count.
